Channel 4 apologizes to Shilpa

According to Akanksha Banerji from CNN-IBN, UK television regulator Ofcom has ordered Celebrity Big Brother to apologize on air for the racial row in its last series involving Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.

According to a statement issued by Ofcom, the reality show's producers Endemol made "serious editorial misjudgement", thereby breaching the TV watchdog's code of conduct. Ofcom has communicated that Channel 4 had "failed to appropriately handle certain material so as to adequately protect members of the public from offensive material."

These include certain participants' remarks about cooking in India, an abusive comment asking Shilpa to return home and a remark which called the actress "Shilpa Poppadom".

There were more than 40,000 complaints that were sent to Ofcom after which the entire investigation took place. It also emerged that there was some unseen footage that had not been broadcast but that was on the show, which too contained some racist comments against Shilpa Shetty.
