Filmmaker Ramgopal Varma is riding the horns of a dilemma with his new movie.
The title of the movie has been jinxed right from the start. Varma ran into copyright issues when rather grandly he first decided to call it Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay. So the director settled on Ram Gopal Varma Ka Gabbar, next. Apparently, even that ran into trouble as Gabbar too was registered under the Copyright Act by the original makers of Sholay.
A Bollywood source said he may have to change the name of the main character in his movie to something like Ajgar Singh as the producers of Sholay have taken objections to the same. "It won't be a surprise if Varma's film is now called Ajgar Singh," said the source. "Although Sholay is considered to be a generic word, and there have been several films made in the past like Ramgarh Ke Sholay and Garhwali Sholay, it is unclear if the argument of copyright over the word holds true," added the source.
Varma has already changed the name of two important characters in his movie, Basanti and Thakur to Ghungroo and Narsimhan respectively. While the original Sholay had Basanti as the tangewali, Varma 's Ghungroo is an autorikshawali. Ramesh Sippy 's Sholay had Gabbar chopping off both the hands of Thakur Baldev Singh whereas Varma's film has Narsimhan (played by Mohanlal) losing both his wrists.
Varma, meanwhile, has always maintained that his is a tribute to Sholay and not a copy of the movie. Bollywood believes that it won't be a bad idea for the filmmaker to ultimately change the title to, say, Ram Gopal Varma ka Ajgar , because the movie has already generated enough curiosity even before its release!

Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra will be doing an encore of their roles from Farhan 's Don.
However stories that Sushmita Sen has been approached for Don 2 are being dismissed as baseless.
The sequel is expected to be much more lavish and gorged with effects because of the new technologically oriented films, namely Dhoom 2 and Krissh, raising the bar and standards.
The budget and the locations for Don 2 will be far more spectacular than the first part. Dates for Shah Rukh and Priyanka have been finalised for early next year.

Salman Khan knew the worth of his creation well when he pulled out his painting from an auction in a suburban hotel, recently. The painting that had earlier attracted only a paltry a sum of rupees 20 lakh, was sold at a whopping one crore, yesterday.
If you thought that the painting was sitting pretty at home you must hear this. Ramesh, an art lover, who had heard about Salman pulling a painting out of an auction, contacted Salman. Says a source, “The deal took place over the phone between Salman and Ramesh. He bought the painting for a crore yesterday.”
Sunaina Narula, chairman Plan India - a charitable organization, had told Mumbai Mirror in an earlier interview, “We were auctioning Salman's paintings and the bidding started from 10 lakhs and came up to 20 lakhs. However, Salman was not very happy about the price so he came up to the stage and stopped the auction. He said that it was a very precious painting as it speaks about the emotions between a mother and a son. He took the painting back and informed us that he had a figure in mind and once he got the price he would send the entire amount to Plan India.” Narula further informed, “It was Anil Kapoor who spoke to Salman and convinced him to bring his paintings for the auction.”
However, this time around the proceeds from the painting will go to the Salman Khan Foundation. Says a source close to the actor, “It was a good decision as Salman has fetched a bigger amount for the same painting. Moreover, the funds will be sent to the Salman Khan Foundation, which will now be richer by one crore.”
Salman's father Salim Khan confirmed this deal. He says, “Yes, Salman has sold the same painting, which he had pulled out earlier. Though I am not aware of the exact amount it has fetched, or, who it is sold to, I know for sure that the amount has gone to Salman Khan Foundation. The NGO organises charity shows. It will benefit the needy that the foundation supports.”

Music maestro A R Rahman unveiled a soulful anthem, Ek Mohabbat, to kick off the India Unites for the TAJ movement.
Spearheaded by I Media Corp Ltd (IMCL), the movement is to campaign for voting the Taj Mahal, Agra, to the New Seven Wonders of the World.
The Taj Mahal is among the 21 finalists and voting is on in full swing across the world for six of the seven wonder places.
It was a 'yes' at first contact for Mr A R Rahman. "I was in London when IMCL contacted me, and I was very excited about composing the anthem. It was very short notice, but my crew and I grabbed the idea and made special time for working on the anthem. I am sure Indians all over the world will feel motivated and vote for the Taj."

Even though the agonising wait for his sentence continues to drag at a snail's pace, Sanjay Dutt seems to be rather optimistic of his ultimate fate and has decided to live life in the fast lane for the time being... literally!
According to sources, Dutt has allegedly got himself a swanky set of wheels - a Ferrari F430 - that he had ordered earlier. The F430 is an eight-cylinder model and costs approximately $168005-$227000 (between Rs 68 to Rs 92 lakhs). On a previous occasion, Dutt had said that his dream car was a Ferrari and it sure looks like his dream has finally come true.
"The car is red in colour and it was in storage at a showroom in Mahalaxmi for a few days. It was delivered to Dutt yesterday," says a source. Despite repeated attempts to get in touch with the deadly Dutt, he was unavailable for comment.
Will the new Ferrari prove to be a lucky talisman? Or a dream ride into freedom? What say Mr Dutt?

It was superstar Amitabh Bachchan's big day at the premiere of his new film Cheeni Kum and accompanying him was son Abhishek, in his first public appearance post honeymoon.
Although neither father nor son spoke to the press, they did make it a point to show their affection for the director, R Balakrishnan.
As for Tabu, she still can't stop raving about the mutual admiration society that she and Amitabh Bachchan formed during shooting for the film. "I think that the ponytail looks very cool and his acting is beyond comparison," said Tabu.
"His (Amitabh Bachchan) look is very cool. And I wanted to see what Balakrishnan has done," said filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.
Although some other Bollywood faces did attend, this premiere of a small film with a large star cast stayed a quiet event.
