Shah Rukh Khan conferred top French honour

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was conferred the prestigious The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Insignia of Officer in the Order of Arts and Literature) by the French government, on Sunday night.

The French ambassador to India, Jerome Bonnafont, conferred the title on Shah Rukh after the inauguration of the first Rendezvous with French Cinema festival at Andheri, a northwestern suburb of Mumbai.

"Entertainment is something where one cannot be selfish, as it is purely for others," SRK said after receiving the award.

He said he was in this field only to entertain the audience. He also added jokingly that he loves the manner in which romance is depicted in French movies!

Shah Rukh Khan - who had a good year in 2007 with runaway hits Chak De! India and Om Shanti Om - was presented the award in recognition of his 15-year-career in the Indian film industry, one of the biggest in the world.

The Order of Arts et Lettres - created in 1957 - is one of the four Ministerial Honours of the French republic, and was established to reward artists, who have gained fame for their works in the field of arts and literature, and have promoted these fields.

Shah Rukh Khan is now in the august company of other recepients which include Indian director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, author Arundhati Roy, singer David Bowie and Bob Dylan, Hollywood actors George Clooney, Leonardo Di Caprio and Clint Eastwood.

Bollywood Buzz congratulates Shah Rukh Khan :o)

@Solitaire - Why do u hate SRK so much, buddy??

@d SINNER!!! - May be this paragraph would give u the answer:

"Shah Rukh Khan was presented the award in recognition of his 15-year-career in the Indian film industry, one of the biggest in the world."

If you think, this is not satisfactory, then please tell me why do you have a doubt?

I'm not a 'die-hard fan' of SRK, this is just out of curiosity you see...I mean, I've seen females swooning at the mere mention of this guy and here we have some, who don't give a damn to the chap!!

By the way, you've an amazing blog, mam :o)

@munmun - You were the first one to comment on my humor blog (when that was operational early last year) and since then I used to visit your blog and read your articles.

Then you suddenly vanished (you used to be on Orkut also, but I hardly have any time to browse that mad world!)

Since your blog is a part of my "Personal Blogs" category on my Google Reader, the moment you published an article, I got a message from Google and so I commented on your latest article.

Good to have you back, mam :o)

Thanks for taking time out of your busy life and visiting my small blog on Indian Cinema :o)

Take care!

I wonder if no one else had a career more than 15 yr sin bollywood?

I know of the works of Adoor GopalKrishnan.. and he deserves the accolade... BUT SRK?

God!!! Already that guy is full of himself...now we can hear this mention for another 3 yrs .. just like he had ONLY OSO on his lips this past yr.

SO how much time has Amitabh Bachan, Sunny Deol and the likes of Anil Kapoor spend in the industry?
