Taare Zameen Par is Aamir Khan's biggest grosser ever!

It is a well-known fact that - post the criticism and brickbats that Dharmesh Darshan's Mela (2000) received - Aamir Khan became extremely selective.

And that has turned out to be a correct and career defining decision, looking at Aamir's almost cent per cent success record (barring an average Mangal Pandey).

It will come as a surprise to many - who are not very Box-Office savvy - that Aamir Khan's Raja Hindustani (1996) is his biggest universal blockbuster - till date - based on its superb run across every circuit of India!

While Raja Hindustani netted around 50 crores from India, the only recent Aamir movie to break that long standing record is Fanaa (2006), which netted close to 55 crores from India (without Gujarat).

Now, the good news:

Aamir Khan's directorial debut venture - Taare Zameen Par - has surpassed Fanaa and is likely to end its run with around 60 crores, just from India!

For the records, Taare Zameen Par has so far netted around 59 crores from India, as of this week.

Well, TZP's performance is amazing and I'm quite sure that, Aamir's upcoming action thriller - Ghajini - will beat it by many a miles!

Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta claim players for Indian Premier League

You've seen them dancing together on screen, but now, they're competing on the cricket pitch!

Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta have decided to throw their weight behind the Indian Premier League with their respective teams.

In Wednesday's auction for players, SRK bagged Shoaib Akhtar for $425,000 (Rs 1.7 crore), Ricky Ponting for $400,000 (Rs 1.6 crore) and Chris Gayle for $800,000 (Rs 3.2 crore).

Preity claimed Mahela Jayawardene for $475,000 (Rs 1.9 crore), S Sreesanth for $ 625,000 (Rs 2.5 crore) and Brett Lee for $900,000 (Rs 3.6 crore).

While money talks - with Bollywood backing - it seems to be bursting into a song and dance!

King Khan is good news for the business, as he already has his finger in many pies. Apart from being a producer, he's a star endorser and a television host too.

The Chak De! India hero is also no stranger to motivating teams!

And while Preity Zinta may no longer have great roles to boast about onscreen currently, she's taking her new role as entrepreneur quite seriously.

"Films are my first child. Cricket now is my second child. I will give my life to it. We want to put up the best team and win all matches. We are here not for business, but to support the sport," she said.

Well then, it seems, IPL Twenty20 is the next most awaited thing of the year!

Lisa Ray's comeback vehicle to Bollywood: Deepa Mehta's comedy movie, Stella

Out West, they think she's Satyajit Ray's daughter!

Lisa Ray is only too happy to be imbued with literary antecedents. After all, she once said she wanted to be a novelist and it's great to know, she's not entirely given it up.

"For now, I am totally engrossed in my acting career, especially after the release of Water. Writing is something I will take up, when I am very old and cannot move, because for now, I am enjoying my acting," she clarifies.

After her critically-acclaimed performance in Water, the controversial lesbian film - I Can't Think Straight - and the action thriller - Kill Kill Faster Faster - Lisa is working with Deepa Mehta again in the comedy, Stella.

The film began shooting hush-hush in Delhi, on a start-to-finish stretch this week.

This is Lisa's comeback to India after the steamy Kasoor in 2001, where she shared more than just screen space with her co-star Aftab Shivdasani.

Her inability to speak Hindi was one of the reasons, why she made no headway in Bollywood and returned to her home base in Canada.

Stella is Deepa's third film with Lisa.

She earlier did the light and frothy Bollywood/ Hollywood with Rahul Khanna in 2002, besides the controversial Water.

In Stella, she's perfectly cast as a 32-year-old Indian-Canadian in Delhi and looks a natural choice, for the part.

Lisa's co-stars in Stella are the Canadian TV phenomenon, Scott Speedman and the NRI Punjabi theatre-actor, Vajendra who makes his screen debut as Preity Zinta's husband in Deepa's Punjabi film, Heaven On Earth.

On the personal front, things seem to be perfect for Lisa, however she reveals that marriage is not for her.

"Well yes, I am living with someone and I am very happy. I do not believe in marriage, and that is how it's going to be!" she declares.

Exclusive: Bachchans' World Tour details

Now it can be told.

The now on-then off World Tour by the Bachchans - featuring Amitabh, Abhishek, Aishwarya and possibly even Jaya - is finally taking place this July!

The family is waiting for the release of Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar Raj - in which Abhishek and Aishwarya play business rivals - before packing their bags and taking off.

The first leg of the tour will take the Bachchans, to Europe and North America, over July and August.

They will then travel elsewhere, covering 25 cities in all.

Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar - who were star attractions in the original line-up - have opted out because they had no dates to offer.

Instead, the Bachchans now have Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta and Ritesh Deshmukh - among their entertainers - for the tour.

An excited Ash said, "It's always wonderful to be on stage with Abhishek and Pa (the Big B).

I remember what fun it was, when we did Kajra Re for an awards function, two years ago. That one act, was a fantastic rock concert by itself. Now going on stage as Amitji's daughter-in-law and Abhishek's wife, will be doubly fantastic!

We really do have a good time. I've watched Pa's earlier concerts, he rivets the audience, while Abhishek has a blast. All three of us love live shows, because we genuinely enjoy music and dance. So the world tour is going to be a grand party, on stage!"

Bollywood Buzz mentioned in Hollywood's top movie blog, Cinematical!

http://www.cinematical.com/2008/02/19/mallika-sherawat-befriends-jesus-in-the-aquarian-gospel/1#c10561328
As all my dear readers know, I'm a hardcore movie lover.

After I'm done with my day job, I make it a point to read what's happening in the world of Bollywood/Hollywood, scan 700+ feeds, update my blog and then call it a day by watching a good movie - either on TV or on DVD.

Yesterday (Feb 20 - it was my birthday!), I was surfing on Cinematical - one of the biggest movie blogs in Hollywood - and I was absolutely thrilled to see Bollywood Buzz being mentioned in one of their articles on Mallika Sherawat in Indie section! (check out the screenshot above)

A BIG THANK YOU to Monika Bartyzel of Cinematical, who was kind enough to mention my blog in her article :o)

# Here is my article which got mentioned in Cinematical.

Now, you might think, "What's the big deal about this? Why is he even mentioning all this?"

Well, for me...its a big deal.

For a person - who has faced various hardships/rejections in life - its a very big deal to get mentioned, in one of the top international cinema blogs!

I remember that day very clearly, when I started this blog in November, 2006 thinking:

# will anybody read my blog among 1000s of other Bollywood related blogs?
# will anybody prefer my normal "news-based" blog, over all those blogs which publish half naked actresses, just for the heck of grabbing eyeballs and traffic?

The above screenshot proves that, there is an audience out there, who loves to read good, decent and to-the-point content!

As I mentioned earlier also, I always believed in Quality over Quantity.

And that's the reason, you will see only the best Bollywood content on my blog, Bollywood Buzz.

Everyday, I scan around 300+ Bollywood related websites (all thanks to my Google Reader) and collect the 'cream' of Bollywood news, decorate it with pictures/videos and then present it to the world.

And now - because of all you guys out there - this blog is gaining popularity, day by day :o)

I want to thank all those:

# who take time out of their busy schedules, and care to visit my blog.
# who regularly comment on my blog.
# who believe in reading and recommending this blog to others.

I'm grateful to YOU, my dear readers, for making this blog popular and successful :o)

Once again, Thank You so much Monika, for making my day! Its the best birthday gift, I've ever received, in my life :o)

Take care, everyone!

Aishwarya Rai to pen down an autobiography?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan might tell her life story, through a book!

Life has been a roller coaster ride for Aishwarya Rai, ever since her fortunes were turned around with her winning of Miss World.

After that, the doe-eyed beauty carved a niche for herself in Hindi film industry, and went through many personal upheavals, before finding the man of her dreams in hubby, Abhishek Bachchan.

It is a life worth documenting and many authors and publishing houses have been approaching Aishwarya repeatedly, with offers of doing a book on her life.

So far, Ash hasn't given her nod to anyone.

Ash's manager - Hari Singh - has told a Mumbai tabloid that Ash might write her biography, instead of giving the job to someone else.

Singh says, "Ash has been fond of making notes about events in her life in a personal diary. There is a possibility that the material in this diary, might one day, be given the shape of an autobiographical book."

Reports go on to suggest that Ash might take the help of her writer mother Vrinda Rai, in this authorial venture of hers.

John Abraham in Sooni Taraporevala's Little Zizou

John Abraham has added another feather to his hat, with his presence in the directorial debut of the internationally acclaimed photographer and screenplay writer, Sooni Taraporevala.

The film - titled Little Zizou - is in the post-production stage and is being produced by Indian Films.

The director of film, Sooni - who also happens to be a close friend of Mira Nair - claimed that John's role of a Parsi boy would take everyone by surprise.

She further added that, although the film revolves around the game of football, John's character had nothing to do with the game.

A spokesperson from Indian Films informed that the only actor, who fitted in the bill as soon as they heard the script, was John.

The film also stars Boman Irani, Immaduddin Shah, Cyrus Broacha and Kurush Deboo.

Ayesha Takia in Milap Zaveri’s Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai!

Ayesha Takia - who played a dubbing artist in her recently released Sunday - is now all set to play an alien, in writer turned director, Milap Zaveri's debut film - Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai! - to be produced by Mukesh Talreja and Nikhil Advani's Orion Pictures Private Limited.

It will star Ayesha Takia, Ritiesh Deshmukh and Ruslaan Mumtaz (of MP3 fame) in lead roles.

Without revealing much about her character, Milap confirms, "Yes, Ayesha has a very interesting role in the film. She is playing an alien who comes from Venus.

There are lot of love stories between rich and poor, caste and creed but nothing that is out of the world. So I came up with a twist to the popular concept of Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus. I kept the man from Earth and the Woman from Venus!"

Ritesh Deshmukh plays the guy from planet Earth while Ayesha Takia is the girl from Venus.

It has a concept of an alien searching for love from an earthling, and there will be lot of special effects, in the film.

How was Ayesha's reaction when she came to know about her role?

"When I narrated this story to Ayesha, she liked the script so much, that she confirmed this film in just 30 seconds. She will have a completely wacky look, just like someone who looks like from some other world. We are in the process of designing her look." says Milap.

Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai! - a romantic comedy, with lots of humor and emotions that the young generation of today can connect with - will commence in April 2008.

Raj Kapoor's Sangam, now in Israel!

The story is simple: Raj Kapoor is Sunder and Rajendra Kumar is Gopal, friends who fall in love with the same woman, Radha, played by the lovely Vyajayanthimala.

Raj Kapoor's Sangam was a 1964 blockbuster, one that continues to make compelling viewing.

Yet now - in the most unlikely of adaptations - it has been made into a stage musical in Israel, performed by the local Indian residents there!

Things began a year ago, reports Haaretz.com, when American millionaire David Mirage funded director Ilan Greenberg's production, featuring residents of the town Dimona.

The story remains essentially the same - with a screen providing Hebrew subtitles - even as the tragic story meets giggles in the audience, as they see their friends and neighbors flounder with Bollywood dialogues, in their accent.

Forty-four years after it was made, Sangam is still winning over audiences and celebrating India!

First Look: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Dilli 6

Dilli 6 is a forthcoming Bollywood film, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni, and Divya Dutta, Dilli 6 is based on Mehra's growing up years in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi.

Dilli 6 will be Mehra's third directorial venture, after the immensely successful Rang De Basanti, which had been selected as India's official entry to the Oscars.

Jean Claude Van Damme's daughter to act in Salman Khan's Veer?

Vijay Galani's Veer - directed by Gadar's director, Anil Sharma - is a big budget extravaganza.

The film has been in news because of its hero - Salman Khan - charging a never-heard-before packet of Rs 25 crore as his fee, and also for writing the script.

Now, according to the latest gossip doing the rounds in B-Town, there is a strong possibility of Hollywood star Jean Claude Van Damme's daughter starring in the film, in a crucial role!

"Yes she is here, but I wouldn't want to talk about it. She is a big man's daughter. Things arent' finalized yet," says director Anil Sharma.

Sharma isn't willing to disclose anything about the film, except that, it's a period film based in 1800 and Salman has been working hard on his physique.

It seems, he has to enhance his frame by one and a half times since he is playing a warrior, in the film.

Van Damme sports a ferocious physique, and is known world over, for his international action packed films like Bloodsport, Universal Soldier, Double Impact etc.

He has two sons and one daughter born in 1990 named Bianca from body builder, Gladys Portugues.

Considering both her parents are in physical sport, she must be a tough gal as well!

Abhishek-Aishwarya coming together in Mani Ratnam's next

While poor onscreen chemistry was a major cause of concern between Abhishek and Aishwarya after Umrao Jaan's failure, things seem to have changed post Guru.

Post their wedding, they will be seen together for the first time in Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar Raj.

And now Guru's director, Mani Ratnam has offered them another film.

It is a known fact that, Abhishek and Aishwarya share an excellent rapport with Mani Ratnam. When he expressed his desire to work with the couple once again, they agreed immediately.

Aishwarya's business manager - Hari Singh - confirms the development saying, "Yes, it's true that Aishwarya and Abhishek have given their consent to Mani Ratnam, for his next. The film will commence this year."

This romantic film will have interesting roles for this couple.

Mani Ratnam has his script ready and once he gets the dates from the actors, he will announce the project soon.

Rakhi Sawant in Yash Raj's next?

Item queen of Bollywood - Rakhi Sawant - is keen to get into the A-league of Bollywood.

She recently performed an item number in Rakesh Roshan's Krazzy 4.

And if sources are to be believed, Rakhi has been signed by Yash Raj Films for their forthcoming film!

According to an industry source, Rakhi has been signed for Yash Raj's Shahid Kapoor-Rani Mukherji starrer, to be directed by Anurag Singh.

"It's going to be a life time role for Rakhi. It's not a cameo. She will be seen as a dancer from the Bhand Samaj doing nautanki. Rakhi's role is quite bold just like the way she is in her real life. She will have some really bold dialogues and rocking dance numbers in the film." reveals the source.

It is believed that Rakhi's role in this film will help her raise the bar, and be at par with the 'A' league actresses.

When Rakhi was quizzed by the media about the film, she neither confirmed nor denied the news.

"It's my dream to work with Yash Raj. I am dying to work with them and if I get an opportunity to work with them, it would be like a dream come true."

Yash Raj Films maintain complete secrecy about their projects, but it is believed that the film will commence in March 2008.

Jodhaa Akbar - Movie Review

Apun Ka Choice: Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar enchants you and exhausts you, at the same time!

BBC: Everything is Big and Grand!

CNN-IBN:
A drama of epic proportions, Jodhaa Akbar is at its core an intimate love story, that's set against the spectacular sweep of the Mughal era. It's the kind of film, that doesn't quite let go of your attention, well after the end credits have rolled some three hours and 20 minutes later!

DNA India:
It is grand no doubt: grand in vision, writing and execution. With some wonderfully restrained and accomplished acting on the part of the huge star cast, Jodhaa Akbar is a spectacle, that befits the period and the people it portrays.

Glamsham:
This movie is a masterpiece, a complete interpretation of what the director has visualized. From costumes, to body language, to background score, to the songs, sets, manpower and lighting, Gowariker has everything spot-on!

Hindustan Times:
And the rest isn't history!

IndiaFM: On the whole, Jodhaa Akbar is - without a shred of doubt - a brilliant film in all respects. This historical has all it takes to prove the first blockbuster of 2008. Very strongly recommended!

Movie
Talkies:
One of the Greatest Motion Pictures of our time!

New York Times:
Jodhaa Akbar - a historical romance directed by Ashutosh Gowariker - is filmmaking on the grand scale of Cecil B. DeMille with romance, stirring battles, a cast of thousands and enough elephants and gold to sink the Titanic!

Now Running:
Jodhaa-Akbar is a splendidly spiced-up slice of history. Not once does the director allow the inherent opulence of his theme, to overpower the love that grows between the lovers.

Rediff:
Jodhaa Akbar is okay, but overlong!

Times Of India: Jodhaa Akbar works only because its heart is in the right place. The film talks about a love that transcends all barriers - gender, religion, culture - and dreams of an India, where secularism and tolerance are the twin towers, that should never ever crumble. And Akbar and Jodhaa are the alluring exponents of this dream.

Katrina Kaif's 6 crore deal with Studio 18

Katrina Kaif is currently riding high!

After all, she was one of the most successful actresses of last year, with her films - Namastey London, Welcome and Partner - becoming blockbusters.

The stunning looking actress has now bagged a 2-film deal with Studio 18, for an astronomical amount of Rs.6 crores!

Katrina - who has already worked in Studio 18's films like Welcome, Namastey London and the forthcoming Singh Is Kinng - seemed excited at the prospect of continuing the association.

Well, with a lot of big releases like Abbas Mustan's Race and even Subhash Ghai's Yuvraaj already in her kitty, this 'Kool Kat' is surely making hay while the sun shines brightly on her!

2008 belongs to Aamir Khan!

Both Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan pulled out all stops to promote their home productions last year, and though SRK seemed to have topped the box-office charts in 2007, Aamir seems all set to reign showbiz in 2008!

Aamir's forthcoming film, a remake of the Tamil thriller Ghajini, has reportedly already made Rs 90 crore plus!

According to reports, the Indian Film Company has bagged the domestic distribution rights for the Aamir Khan-starrer for an estimated Rs 53 crore. While its home video rights, overseas rights and satellite rights have been sold for another Rs 40 crore.

Which brings the grand total to Rs 93 crore.

"With Aamir at the helm we are convinced that, Ghajini will be one of the biggest films of 2008, so it's a fair deal for us," CEO of TFC Advisors, Sandeep Bhargava said.

Till now, the record for pre-release movie rights was for King Khan's Om Shanti Om, which was Rs 73 crore.

The reported record price that Ghajini has fetched. now puts Aamir one notch above Shah Rukh Khan, as both actor and producer.

While Shah Rukh's Om Shanti Om has made over Rs 90 crore in its 15th week, Aamir's Taare Zameen Par has already made Rs 85 crore in its eighth week!

This despite the fact that, Aamir's film was considered a more niche product.

"The number of prints that we released for TZP is just 470 as opposed to 800 plus prints of most blockbusters. Yet the film stayed on the sheer basis of its merit," Head of distribution - PVR, Gaurav Verma said.

So while SRK's overpowering presence everywhere makes him the more popular star, it looks like, Aamir Khan's saleability justifies his reported asking price of Rs 7 crore for a film!

Shah Rukh to make Bollywood's costliest movie!

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan is spending an estimated Rs.1 billion, for perhaps the costliest Bollywood movie to be made, so far!

The movie for children will be in the VFX medium, using computer-generated special effects.

"It will be a movie featuring a lot of children, who wish for bad things, but get a shocking reality check when they come true", Shah Rukh told Patrick Frater of Variety (Hollywood's top trade magazine) in a recent interview in Berlin.

He is talking to Eros Multimedia and Charles Darby (of The Matrix and Minority Report fame), who recently co-ventured with Eros to launch Mumbai-based special effects Eyeqube Studios.

Shah Rukh said he was planning the movie under his home banner, Red Chillies Productions.

The new venture - to be directed by Anubhav Sinha - has a budget of $25 million (almost Rs.1 billion), making it the most expensive Bollywood movie to date!

"We are dedicating the next eight-nine months, taking the best technicians from around the world and asking them to help us make the best VFX film India has ever made. It will be madcap, over the top. I want it to be as beautiful as Spider-Man in terms of effects," Khan told Variety.

Aishwarya Rai gets candid on Valentine's Day

It's Valentine's Day and love is in the air.

More so for Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan and hubby Abhishek, who are celebrating their first Valentine together, as a married couple.

And though tight-lipped about their plans for the day, Aishwarya says that her approach to such days is simple.

"Every day is a simple day and every day is a celebration. What you make of every moment is what it's all about."

Admitting that she's as curious as we are to know what the day will bring, she recalls the previous year's Valentine's Day when their affair was surrounded with speculation and rumours.

"It was a very special time for us, as we were engaged. But it was quite hectic. I was shooting for Jodhaa Akbar and working full throttle.

Going up and down to Karjat and knowing that marriage was not too far away, I was working at it all - completing the film and our marriage preparations," she reminisces.

So, what's her idea of a perfect romantic date?
"Togetherness is perfect, whatever the setting," says the Bachchan bahu.

And who's the more romantic of the two?
"I really don't know," she blushes, adding, "We don't get into all this. We are just very happy with each other and I think that in itself says a lot."

And what is the most romantic thing Abhishek's done for her?
"Well, he proposed to me! To want to spend the rest of our lives together is by far, the most romantic thing, I could've experienced. It is very special, very real," says the actress.

Is there anything she would want to change in him?
"Currently there is nothing that I need to change in him," comes the reply.

And what is the one thing she really loves about him?
"It's difficult to put it down to one thing. I just love him and that's why I'm married to him," she gushes.

"He's all rolled into one - a fabulous actor, a great husband and an excellent friend. I love him. He is the best in everything he does or is," she says flashing a dazzling smile.

Shah Rukh Khan gets candid on Valentine's Day

He is the eternal Rahul of Indian cinema, the lover who always gets the heroine in the end!

But call him that, and Shah Rukh Khan just throws up his hands and says resignedly, "People call me a lot of names; I don't mind being called any!

Then on a serious note, the King of Romance adds, "I have reached the giving stage of my Bollywood love affair. I want to give more and more love to my audience through my work. If you want to call it love...please go ahead!"

But SRK is not the kind to straitjacket love in the confines of Valentine's Day.

"I have never really understood this day. According to me, love has so many facets. For instance, if you asked Don Juan, he would have said that loving 1700 women was the nicest thing in his life.

And I think I would respect that also. The beauty of love is that it has no boundaries. For me, love means my children. I am in love with the undiplomatic and innocent stage of life that they are in," he says.

Preity Zinta gets candid on Valentine's Day

Currently dating Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta shares her Valentine's Day plans:

Any plans for V-day?
(Laughs) If you have any gifts, please give them to me now.

Which is your most memorable Valentine's Day?
The most special Valentine's Days are the initial ones. To have someone important in one's life is a good reason to smile every day. I'm happy for whoever wants to celebrate it.

The best gift you ever got?
On January 24, when the IPL bid result came in my favour. I was so excited that I couldn't stop jumping around. It took me a day to calm down!

We're talking about Valentine's Day gifts here.
Hmm, can't recollect one right now.

Ideally, how would you like to spend the day?
I don't plan too much, but go with the flow. I'm a romantic at heart and all that, but I don't plan days ahead.. I'm more spontaneous.

Which is the most romantic moment of your life?
It has to be the scene in Kal Ho Naa Ho, when Shah Rukh reads the letter to me. I remember asking Karan Johar if anyone could do that in real life.. I don't think so. I was floored. The dialogue was so much like poetry.

Ever wished it to happen in real life?
In reality, life is incredible. If anyone wrote poetry to me, I don't know.. (laughs) I'd probably run as if I were running in the Mumbai marathon!

Rakhi Sawant's Valentine drama!

In a seeming highlight of Valentine's Day, the original drama girl Rakhi Sawant gave us some more drama!

In a scene that was telecast live on a news channel, her boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi visited her home and gave her a bouquet of red roses and begged for forgiveness.

It was reported a few days ago that, Rakhi split with her boyfriend, leaving him heartbroken.

Initially appearing to be taken aback, Rakhi soon showed her irritation and even slapped him in full view of the cameras!

Abhishek did not give up, and tried to make peace with her.

To this, Rakhi showed more annoyance and called security to throw him out of her home. The security was hesitant to do so, and Rakhi shouted in her now patented dramatic fashion, "Do you guys work for me or for him?"

This is not the first time, Rakhi has thrown a public tantrum.

At a party, singer Mika had kissed Rakhi (allegedly forcibly) and Rakhi told all and sundry how humiliated she was by the incident.

Only recently, she tried to create another controversy when she lost to Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh in the third season of the celebrity dance reality show, Nach Baliye.

Priyanka, Sushmita and Lara as Charlie's Angels?

According to the latest buzz doing the rounds in the B-town, Rohit Jugraj - who started his career by assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali and then directed the fiasco actioner - James - for Ram Gopal Varma - has been approached by Abbas-Mustan to produce his take on Charlie's Angels.

The film is expected to star Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra as the three sexy 'angels' played originally by Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.

Rohit says, "Yes, I'm directing a film for Abbas-Mustan and it's the Charlie's Angels styled girls' action flick.

I'm going to say neither yes nor no to the three names mentioned in the lead. All I'll say at this stage is that, my producers Abbas-Mustan are very influential and they've worked with the who's who of the industry. For them getting my wish list of actors won't be a problem!"

It's official: Shilpa Shetty to act in James Bond - Quantum of Solace!

If my dear readers recall, I wrote about this last year also, however, it was just an assumption that time.

But now, it's official!!

Cinematical is reporting that Shilpa Shetty has signed to play a character called Devi in the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace!

Shilpa, best known for her dignified response to an avalanche of abuse from a group of other inmates, in the last Celebrity Big Brother, has appeared in around 50 Hindi-language productions, but the James Bond outing would represent her first Hollywood role.

Little is known yet, about the scope of the character - whether it's a significant part or a cameo - but it's undoubtedly the kind of thing Shilpa was shooting for, when she entered the Big Brother circus.

Mallika Sherawat to act in Drew Heriot's movie based on Jesus Christ, The Aquarian Gospel

Mallika Sherawat is to play the role of Jesus Christ's confidante in an American film, The Aquarian Gospel.

Australian-born Drew Heriot - director of the docu-feature - The Secret (2006) - which sold the largest number of DVDs in the US that year - is at the helm of the film.

The Bible is silent on Christ's life between 13 and 30, and down the centuries, many theories have been constructed about what he did in these years.

Among the more popular beliefs is that Christ visited Kashmir.

Heriot's film chronicles Jesus' journey from Israel as a young boy, through India, Tibet, Persia, Greece and Egypt. In the movie, he encounters people of all creeds and meets sages from different faiths.

Mallika will play Saraswati - one of Yeshua's (Jesus) loyal friends - whom he bonds with, while he travels through India.

Heriot says that Mallika is not just a pretty face, she is versatile, has a background in philosophy, and so, she will convey the richness of the subject matter.

The actress - who has broken taboos in the Indian film industry with bold movies such as Khwahish and Murder - feels The Aquarian Gospel also breaks a different kind of taboo by discussing the lost years of Jesus.

"I find that in most mythological and spiritual film stories, women seem to be lacking in any true wisdom or a sense of humour. I look forward to bringing both these qualities to this character," said Mallika.

Aishwarya is not doing Shankar's Robot

It was officially announced that Aishwarya was to play Rajinikanth's lead lady in Shankar's Robot, but it is official now that the former Miss World is no more part of the project!

So what could be the reason behind the twist in the tale?

Well, there are two versions:

# The first is that, Aishwaya Rai Bachchan is pregnant!

Could it be that, this lovely star has turned down the offer, because she is expecting her first child and, has hence decided against a project which is scheduled to start only later this year?

Until the Bachchans decide to release the pregnancy news (if any) officially, we'll have to wait!

# The second version is that, Ash was offered a sum less than she desired, so she declined the role in a huff!

Yes, it was earlier said that, she had been offered a whopping Rs 6 crore, for her role and that she had been okay with it. Now the talk is that, the actual offer was much less and not astronomical enough, for Ash's taste.

No matter which version is true, the definite part about the news is that Ash is indeed out of Robot.

So who is Shankar trying to rope in now? Deepika Padukone!

Will Deepika be willing to pick up where Ash left off?

It's official: Sanjay Dutt weds Manyata

It was an event that was (eagerly) waiting to happen!

After days of speculation about their wedding, Sanjay Dutt ultimately silenced everyone by tying the knot with Manyata - his girlfriend of two years - under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, in front of a few close friends (as witnesses) on 7th Feb.

The location chosen was The Taj Exotica Hotel in Goa.

And yesterday, they solemnised the marriage vows - according to Hindu rites, in Mumbai.

Television channels broadcast footage of the action hero and his bride leaving a friend's house dressed in wedding outfits. The ceremony itself was a low-key affair and hardly anyone from the Bollywood fraternity was present.

Sanjay and Manyata have been seeing each other since October 2006.

This is the third marriage for Sanjay.

His first wife - Richa - died of brain tumour, and his marriage to former model Rhea Pillai, ended in divorce. Sanjay has a daughter from his first marriage.

Bollywood Buzz congratulates Sanjay & Manyata :o)
