Amrita Rao dances to Farah's tune again

Actress Amrita Rao says she enjoys a special bond with sister-brother duo Farah and Sajid Khan and had a great time shooting a special song for them in Hey Baby.

"It seems just the other day when Farah and I had loads of fun doing Main Hoon Na. When her brother Sajid called me, I was so happy. I share a special relationship with both of them. Sajid wanted all the heroines who are his friends to be part of the song. Sajid says I'm his younger sister," Amrita said.

The song is filmed in a pub. "We all have our own little scenes, our few minutes of fame, with Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan and Riteish Deshmukh. I've about 10 seconds with each."

Amrita's Vivah was a super-duper hit. She says she had no difficulty in playing the homely, cultured, middleclass character. "Fortunately, just before the shooting, I visited Mathura and Vrindavan. I saw the girls there. So I knew how girls dress, talk and behave in culturally rich small towns of India. I don't find such unspoilt gentleness unnatural. Those who do are perhaps de-linked from the real India. It wasn't difficult for me to envision what Sooraj-ji (Sooraj Barjatya) narrated to me."

What next?

"Good films with good makers. As for my next release, E Niwas' My Name Is Anthony Gonzalves, I play a Catholic girl who is an assistant director. That's my only assignment at the moment." She thinks highly of Niwas. "How many directors have boasted of a National Award at such a young age. I'm impressed by Niwas' clarity of thought."

Amrita passes on the SRK 'mantra' to a newcomer

Kiska hai ye tumko intezaar main hoon naaaShah Rukh sang this song to the troubled Amrita in the film Main Hoon Na. Everyone knows about Shah Rukh’s relationship with his co-stars and how he makes them feel at ease when he is around on the sets. Well things weren’t too different on the sets of Farah Khan directed film Main Hoon Na.

Ask Amrita and she will vouch for Shah Rukh’s ever- helping nature “When we were shooting for Main Hoon Na, Shah Rukh told me never loose your focus no matter what There can be so many distractions on the set, there are SMS’s, phone calls, so many things, above all there can be situations while shooting which you cannot relate to, but until and unless you are not focused you cannot deliver. And that is so true, which is something I realised and experienced in all these years of acting.”

Amrita has come a long way after this film. Last seen in the role of a docile small town girl in Vivah, she will soon be seen playing the role of an assistant director in the film My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves, something completely different from what she did in Vivah. So how does she keep up with such a variety of roles and hectic schedules? Well you guessed it right she always keeps in mind Shah Rukh’s mantra of not loosing your focus.

And now Amrita passes on the same mantra to her co-star of the film Nikhil Dwivedi that Shah Rukh had given her on the sets of Main Hoon Na. “I always ask him to be focussed in life. That’s the way you achieve the best”, says Amrita. Perhaps this is Amrita’s way of passing on Shah Rukh’s legacy to newcomers who might not get to work with the King Khan in their first few flicks but yes will surely get his glimpse through Amrita. Nikhil too vouches for the piece of advice from Amrita.

And what about all the recent rumours of a love story budding between her and this new guy Nikhil? “Some journalists have to earn their bread and butter and such baseless stories provide fodder for them.” Amrita clearly rubbishes the rumours “These very people in the media criticize us of making clichéd films and they themselves can’t think beyond such done-to-death stories to run their newspapers”.

So all that stories… Amrita cuts the question abruptly “are far from the truth. We just share a nice rapport and good working relationship. I just hope that I am being a good support to Nikhil; I try my best to encourage him. He is very smart guy; he not only knows a lot about acting but is a very well aware and informed person on various other subjects as well. I wish him all the best.”

We take your words Amrita.
