Boman Irani gets bashed up by Brits

At about 6pm on Thursday (19 Apr) at the Golden Cross Pub in London’s Hayes area, Boman Irani dressed in a black blazer was ready to go in the pub for a drink with his mates. A lot of people gathered near Boman for his autograph. The comic genius was completely amazed by his fan following even in London. What happened next shocked everyone else at the scene.

Couple of Brit brats were not happy that Boman and his friends were cheering ‘Southall Southall’. They pushed Boman and challenged him to fight back. A small argument came to blows outside the pub too. And while the onlookers expected a big brawl, the fans who came to meet the actor were shocked what they saw next.

Everyone shook hands and made up. After all, this was only a scene from the film ‘Goal’. Well the filmmakers were just trying to get a little too real!

Double bill for Boman Irani this February

2006 was a superb year for Boman Irani as he came with at least 4 notable performances in films like BEING CYRUS, LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI, KHOSLA KA GHOSLA and DON. The year may have ended on a bleak note for him with a disappointing I SEE YOU, but with a double bill this February he is ready to strike back.

This Valentines, he would be giving a gift of a different kind to his fans as he appears as a King in EKLAVYA - THE ROYAL GUARD. With an author backed role in a setup created by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the man whose Munnabhai series have made him a household name, Boman is expected to come up with a performance that would boast of high drama. Releasing on February 16, the film is expected to be one entertaining outing.

A week later, Boman is seen changing the gears and chilling out with boys and girls half his age as he takes on a honeymoon trip with his onscreen wife Shabana Azmi for the film HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT. LTD. As Oscar Fernandez who is trying to rebuild his life with his newly wed wife, he would be seen in a completely different light when compared to EKLAVYA -THE ROYAL GUARD.

"I’m lucky to be a part of ensemble casts"

Boman IraniThe nation once again went bonkers over Boman Irani’s performance in LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI. The talented actor is not resting on his laurels post LRMB, the successful sequel to MUNABHAI M.B.B.S. He is thrilled by the spectrum of films coming up. He plays Oscar Fernandes, a 50-year old Catholic man married to Shabana Azmi in Reema Kagti’s HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT LTD. “It’s a romantic comedy. All the characters are different and amazingly etched out. I play this nice teddy bear kind of a character. He is joyous but there’s also a tinge of sadness in him. He has his own back-story. It tackles loads of issues in its own sweet little way. It’s funny sometimes; it’s sensitive at times. It makes you realize the fact that when you start loving someone, you realize who you really are. It’s a charming film with a wonderful bunch of actors,” reveals Boman.

HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT LTD is about 6 couples who are on a package honeymoon to Goa, viz Boman Irani-Shabana Azmi, Arjun Rampal-Dia Mirza, Kay Kay Menon-Raima Sen, Amisha Patel-Karan Khanna, Minissha Lamba-Abhay Deol and Vikram Chatwal-Sandhya Mridul.

Up next is Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s EKLAVYA, Boman’s most complex role to date. Even this one has an ensemble star cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Saif Ali Khan, Jimmy Shergill and Vidya Balan. “I play King Rana whose back-story is very complex. His actions and inactions are based on his back-story. He can be cruel and kind also. It’s difficult to figure him out,” enthuses Boman, adding, “I’m glad being a part of diverse films with ensemble casts. For e.g. HONEYMOON…family is different from EKLAVYA family. I am lucky to be an integral part of so many families.”

Amongst his other upcoming films are Vivek Agnihotri’s GOAL and debutant Vivek Agrawal’s I SEE YOU.

Boman Irani plays hard

We all know that the cast of Goal is being trained by none other Andy Ansah in Mumbai. And Boman Irani is no exception. The actor, we believe, will be playing the role of the goal-keeper. And this brings back to him memories of his college days. During one of the training sessions, he was overheard saying, “I used to be a goal-keeper during my college days, too. It’s like returning to those days. It’s great fun and I’m enjoying every minute of this.” Talk about playing hard!
