Bobby Deol in Karan Johar's next production

It's been a slow and steady climb for the langorous Deol.

After losing out on plum assignments - Mani Rathnam 's Yuva and Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul - Bobby Deol suddenly bounced back last year with a stellar performance in Yashraj Films' Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.

Though the film was a dud, Bobby was widely appreciated. And now, from Yashraj, Bobby moves to another biggie.

He is now been signed up by Karan Johar for his untitled production to be directed by debutant Tarun Mansukhani. The film already has Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham in it.

So, where does Bobby fit in?

"You wait and watch," promises Karan. "Bobby is going to surprise everyone in Tarun's film. We needed a certain presence and an actor with specific personality for one of the leads and Bobby fitted the bill."

Bobby & Sunny: Stranded in London!

Recently, there was an uncontrollable hullabaloo at the Heathrow airport in London, and the terror alert in UK was just one of the reasons. The other was the Deol brothers.

Yeah, the two Ds were flying from San Francisco to Mumbai, with a connecting flight from London. Sunny and Bobby were stuck in Heathrow with hundreds of other travellers.

But, the wait at the airport was far from torture, because the two were entertained by fans during those long hours. A number of desis went up to the brothers only to tell them how much they loved Apne, and expressed their joy at seeing Dharamji with his betas.

And the two Deols were delighted with all the applause and attention. After all, sab apne hi fans hain, hain na?

Deol family would team up again!

According to sources, the Apne combo of father Dharmendra and sons Sunny and Bobby would team up for another film.

"That's true! It took us more than a decade to get the right script. But it should be easier the next time. At the same time, I wish to add that we wouldn't hurry into our next project since Apne has worked. There'll be a sufficient gap for sure," Sunny said.

It's said that he might direct a film again, after Dillagi.

"No such plans. I wish Dillagi had released today. It came much before its time. With multiplexes around, a film like Dillagi would've worked in a big way today," he asserts.

Bobby, Kangana in Samir's Roshan

While the Kyun...Ho Gaya Na director's biggie project Mera Bharat Mahaan with Preity and Salman is being put together, Samir Karnik has decided to do a quirky quickie, a kind of follow-up to his ready-for-release Nanhe Jaisalmer (now entitled Nanhe).

Entitled Roshan, the new Karnik project brings together the rapidly- rising Kangana Ranaut with her Shakalaka Boom Boom co-star Bobby Deol. Bobby, of course is now a favourite of Karnik. The actor, who plays himself in Nanhe, just can't stop praising the director, the film and his young co-star Dwij Yadav who plays the title role.

In an intriguing reprise of his earlier film, Karnik again brings together Bobby and his Nanhe co-star Dwij in Roshan, with Kangana thrown in for good measure. According to sources, Bobby who played actor Bobby Deol in Nanhe, plays a doctor in Roshan. Both the films are designed as intimate arthouse products meant to be carried to film festivals. According to a source, "Nanhe and now Roshan are Bobby's passport to the festival circuit."

To be produced by Eros Entertainment, Roshan's cinematography will be done by the inimitable Binod Pradhan. It starts shooting on 6 May.

The Deols to tap their collective equity

Spurred by brand name Bachchan, the Deols are now planning their own collective strategy.

If Anil Sharma's Apne which features the Deols - Dharmendra and his two sons, is a success, the family intends to come together in other films.

"It all depends on how Apne does," reveals Bobby. “But we do want to come together, and why not? We're a formidable force, we can be. But we've to find the right scripts."

Bobby Deol feels the wait for his film featuring the entire family has been worth it. "My father and my brother and I waited all these years to come together. That's because we didn't want to be in a script that didn't excite us. I think Apne is the right vehicle for us. I feel the three of us being together is an event for us. Though the Deols haven't produced it, I feel Apne is our own film. Everyone who has seen it says that it has turned out to be the ideal vehicle for the Deol family."

Bobby spends a lot of time with his family. "I'm basically a home bird. I don't create issues on the sets. I don't let others upset me. I've six releases this year and many of them with other male co-stars. But there has never been an issue. I've never had more than two releases per year. My first release would be the small budget Nanhe Jaisalmer where I play myself. Contrary to belief, I don't have a guest appearance in the film. I'm there throughout. All my scenes are with a kid who's brilliant. It's a very real film." He ponders, "While I'm the baby in Apne I'm all grown up in Nanhe Jaisalmer.”

Bobby Deol to play himself in Nanhe Jaisalmer

Nanhe, Bobby Deol, Katrina Kaif, Vatsal Sheth
Bobby Deol has got quite an interesting role in his next film Nanhe Jaisalmer. The actor gets to play himself! He will be seen playing the role of none other than Bobby Deol in the forthcoming Nanhe Jaisalmer, directed by Samir Karnik of Kyun… Ho Gaya Na! fame.

Contrary to what people might think, this role is not a special appearance. It is a full fledged-role. The film deals with the life of a child and how Bobby makes a difference to him.

Few people know that Bobby and the director of the film, Samir go back a long way. Bobby has known him since the time he was shooting for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Kareeb, in which Karnik was assisting Chopra. Undeterred by the failure of Karnik’s first directorial effort, Bobby is quite excited about this film. Although he does not want to reveal too much about the story right now, he believes that the story is challenging.

Deol power dominates April

Sunny, Bobby and AbhayIt could well be a record of sorts.

Each of the three Deols, Sunny, Bobby and Abhay, would be seeing a release of theirs hitting the silver screen week after week in April.

The Deol festival begins with Bobby Deol starrer SHAKALAKA BOOM BOOM where he has Upen Patel for company. This Suneel Darshan film based on rivalry amongst music super stars is slated for April 06 release.

A week later arrives Sunny Deol's BIG BROTHER that has finally been confirmed for April 13th. After a few hiccups, this Guddu Dhanoa film is now being keenly awaited by die-hard Sunny fans.

Well, looking at his elder brothers enjoying themselves this beginning of summer, even the youngest of them, Abhay, is not far behind as his EK CHALIS KI LAST LOCAL is also hitting the marquee exactly a week later i.e. April 20th.

Directed by debutant Sanjay Khanduri, the film comes at a time when both Abhay and Neha, the lead pair of the film, are having good times professionally. While Abhay now has a hit in the form of HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT. LTD., Neha has been recognized for her natural performance in just released DELHII HEIGHTS.

With such a festival round the corner, one can be quite sure it won't be just difficult but impossible to ignore the Deols.

Bobby Deol breaks down in front of dad

Bobby Deol broke down in tears while shooting with dad Dharmendra for their movie ‘Apne’.

Director Anil Sharma’s forthcoming film Apne brings together the three Deols ( Sunny Deol , Bobby and their dad Dharmendra) together on the silver screen for the first time.

The movie is primarily about boxing and relationships. It is about human bonds that are strengthened after going through testing times. The movie’s climax has Bobby and Dharmendra in an emotional scene in which the senior Deol tells Bobby that he is proud of him.

However, while shooting this scene, there was less of acting and more of real emotions between the father and the son. In the scene, Dharmendra proudly acknowledges Bobby and hugs him. But even after the director okayed the shot and called ‘cut’, Bobby kept hugging his father. People on the sets say there were tears in Bobby’s eyes.

Seeing his son getting emotional, Dharmendra tried to pacify him. It took a few minutes for Bobby to quiet down. He then went to his van and freshened up.
