Moral police runs after Mandira again

A sessions in Indore issued notices to actress and TV anchor Mandira Bedi and her designer Puneet Nanda in connection with the saree controversy on Wednesday.

Bedi had sparked off a furore for wearing a saree that had flags of all 16 countries that participated in the recently concluded World Cup 2007.The Indian Flag appeared in the folds of her saree near her feet. Puneet Nanda had to apologise. "I didn't think our flag would end up near Bedi's foot. I am sorry."

Ajay Vir Singh, an advocate, had lodged a petition in the court of CJM, accusing Mandira of disrespecting the tricolour by wearing it as a design on her sari and violating the Flag Code.

While Bedi has been arrayed in as the first accused, designer Puneet Nanda is the second accused. The complainant has also prayed for examining Kunaldas Gupta, Chief Executive of Sony Entertainment TV, Charu Sharma, co-anchor, former cricketers Tony Greig, Arjuna Ranatunga and Ian Chappell as witnesses, as they were present during the show Extraa Innings.

Mandira had tendered an apology and said the she has no intention to hurt anybody's national sentiments. She had earlier been amidst controversy for using a Sikh religious symbol on her body as a tattoo. Mandira kicks up row at Cup finale

CONTROVERSIAL INNINGS? The controversial saree is part of a collection designed by Satya Paul.
Actress and cricket anchor Mandira Bedi's clothes flagged off a fresh controversy on Saturday after she was spotted wearing the Indian colours in a disrespectful manner on a satellite television channel.

Hosting the live telecast of the Cricket World Cup along with Charu Sharma on SetMax, Mandira was seen wearing an image of the Indian Tricolour below her waist, which seems to have gone against the constitutional norm. Mandira's saree on the occasion had images of national flags of all the cricket-playing nations printed on it. But it placed the image of the Indian Tricolour in a rather disrespectful position.

As soon as the show kicked off at 1700 hours (IST) on Saturday evening and the Indian cricket fans glued to their television sets for some good cricket, SMSs started doing the rounds in India, pointing fingers at the aberration on Mandira's saree.

According to sources, the controversial saree was part of a special collection designed by Satya Paul, which is being sported exclusively by Mandira Bedi during the ongoing World Cup.

Mandira in trouble over Sikh symbol

Mandira Bedi is once again in the news. Though not for a good reason. She was seen dancing on the ramp wearing a tattoo of Ek Onkar-Sikh's religious symbol- on her back.

Taking a serious note, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has sought an unconditional public apology from her. SGPC secretary Harbeant Singh on Wednesday said this semi clad actress has earlier also attempted to belittle the character of Sikhs by holding various programmes.

Censuring her attempt to disgrace Sikhs' religious symbol, Harbeant said the religious sentiments were severely hurt due to her act. He said Mandira should immediately seek apology from the Panth.
