Taare Zameen Par is Aamir Khan's biggest grosser ever!

It is a well-known fact that - post the criticism and brickbats that Dharmesh Darshan's Mela (2000) received - Aamir Khan became extremely selective.

And that has turned out to be a correct and career defining decision, looking at Aamir's almost cent per cent success record (barring an average Mangal Pandey).

It will come as a surprise to many - who are not very Box-Office savvy - that Aamir Khan's Raja Hindustani (1996) is his biggest universal blockbuster - till date - based on its superb run across every circuit of India!

While Raja Hindustani netted around 50 crores from India, the only recent Aamir movie to break that long standing record is Fanaa (2006), which netted close to 55 crores from India (without Gujarat).

Now, the good news:

Aamir Khan's directorial debut venture - Taare Zameen Par - has surpassed Fanaa and is likely to end its run with around 60 crores, just from India!

For the records, Taare Zameen Par has so far netted around 59 crores from India, as of this week.

Well, TZP's performance is amazing and I'm quite sure that, Aamir's upcoming action thriller - Ghajini - will beat it by many a miles!

Stay tuned in!

2008 belongs to Aamir Khan!

Both Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan pulled out all stops to promote their home productions last year, and though SRK seemed to have topped the box-office charts in 2007, Aamir seems all set to reign showbiz in 2008!

Aamir's forthcoming film, a remake of the Tamil thriller Ghajini, has reportedly already made Rs 90 crore plus!

According to reports, the Indian Film Company has bagged the domestic distribution rights for the Aamir Khan-starrer for an estimated Rs 53 crore. While its home video rights, overseas rights and satellite rights have been sold for another Rs 40 crore.

Which brings the grand total to Rs 93 crore.

"With Aamir at the helm we are convinced that, Ghajini will be one of the biggest films of 2008, so it's a fair deal for us," CEO of TFC Advisors, Sandeep Bhargava said.

Till now, the record for pre-release movie rights was for King Khan's Om Shanti Om, which was Rs 73 crore.

The reported record price that Ghajini has fetched. now puts Aamir one notch above Shah Rukh Khan, as both actor and producer.

While Shah Rukh's Om Shanti Om has made over Rs 90 crore in its 15th week, Aamir's Taare Zameen Par has already made Rs 85 crore in its eighth week!

This despite the fact that, Aamir's film was considered a more niche product.

"The number of prints that we released for TZP is just 470 as opposed to 800 plus prints of most blockbusters. Yet the film stayed on the sheer basis of its merit," Head of distribution - PVR, Gaurav Verma said.

So while SRK's overpowering presence everywhere makes him the more popular star, it looks like, Aamir Khan's saleability justifies his reported asking price of Rs 7 crore for a film!

Aamir Khan and Kajol in Rajkumar Hirani’s Idiot

They were first seen in Ishq and then in the super hit movie, Fanaa.

Now, the team of Aamir Khan and Kajol might come back once again, in Rajkumar Hirani's next film called Idiot.

If sources are to be believed, Kajol has agreed to do the film, though, nothing has been signed on the dotted line. Aamir has, apparently, already signed the film.

The film will, most likely, go on floors in July.

Kajol hasn't signed any film at the moment and Aamir will be free, after finishing his Ghajini remake schedule.

Saif Ali Khan and John Abraham have also been approached for other pivotal roles for Idiot.

Stay tuned in!

Update: Aamir Khan confirms this news!

Aamir Khan's bald look!

Aamir Khan is one of the most versatile and talented actors (and now, even a successful director) in the Indian film industry.

The actor who is known for his quality of work is also well known for his impeccable sense of perfection in whatever he does and his attention for detail.

The actor-director gave us one of the most loved films of 2007 - Taare Zameen Par - which had everyone raving about his directorial skills.

However, not one to rest on his past laurels, Aamir is currently busy shooting for the much anticipated remake of the Tamil hit, Ghajini.

The film directed by A.Murugadoss, which is around 50% complete, has Aamir alongside south sensation Asin and Jiah Khan.

Aamir is known to go all out when it comes to preparing for his roles, and for this film, he is going one step further to completely get into the skin of the character.

Apparently, the script of the film requires Aamir to go bald (especially in the second half) and, while some of the other B-town actors may have opted for the easy way out and preferred to put a wig, the perfectionist Khan has decided that he would indeed shave his head to suit the character!

Well, now if and when that does happen, it surely will be one of the most talked about make-overs of the year!

However, I couldn't resist but show you how the superstar would probably look, with a clean plate.

Guys, what do you feel about Aamir's plan to go bald? Do you think he'll carry the bald look well or will he fail to impress, without hair on his head?

Please post your opinion in the comments section, thanks!

I tried my best… but I'm sorry I couldn't then… but I have now… so please don't give me grief… instead support me now!"

After celebrating the huge success of his directorial debut film - Taare Zameen Par - last month, the actor now plans to get his life back on track, by following a strict routine of working out, healthy diets and early sleeps.

Taare...New Delhi politicians par!

When Aamir Khan organised a special screening of Taare Zameen Par for the leader of Opposition - L.K. Advani - in New Delhi recently, there were speculation like, 'Is Aamir joining BJP?' at the venue!

But Aamir just laughed while Shatrughan Sinha (also present at the special screening) explained, " Hum toh chahte hain ki Aamir jaisa kalakaar aur neta har desh, har party ko miley!" (we want that every country should have an actor and politician like Aamir!).

A special viewing: Enjoying the oh-so-exclusive screening were Advani and his wife Kamla, daughter Pratibha and son Jayant.

Aamir's aunt Najma Heptullah (who thought of showing the movie to Advani) was spotted posing for the shutterbugs with Pratibha.

Delhi's mayor Arti Mehra walked in while the screening was on, and blamed her late arrival on the Delhi traffic!

On the movie, Advani had this to say, "I want to thank Aamir for this movie. This movie has changed the way people look at their kids."

We think so too, Advaniji!

Now that Taare Zameen Par has released, Aamir Khan is back in the producers seat and is working on new projects.

Apart from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na - a launch vehicle for his nephew Imraan - which is directed by Abbas Tyrewala, Aamir is also working on a comedy, set in Delhi.

Even though details of the film are sketchy, it's learnt that Aamir will only produce and not direct it.

An insider from the Khan camp reveals, "Aamir is looking at various scripts and meeting young film makers with different ideas. For the last few months, he's been busy with the post-production work on TZP, but the same time he was planning his next project.

He will soon start working on a script that's caught his attention. It's an action comedy, set in Delhi called Delhi Belly.

Aamir Khan in Shankar's sci-fi film, Robot

Apparently, Aamir Khan is all set to play the lead in South director Shankar's sci-fi film, Robot.

If sources are to be believed, Shankar met Aamir a few days ago.

Aamir is interested, and Shankar is busy with the film's pre-production. However, it is still not known if Aamir will produce the film as well, or Shankar will rope in some other producer.

There was a lot of talk about Shah Rukh Khan doing the film under his banner, Red Chillies Entertainment. However, due to creative differences between SRK and Shankar, the two decided to part ways amicably.

Aamir will play a scientist who creates a robot with whom his physically challenged child can play with. However, things turn bad when the robot begins to kill people. Aamir then has to terminate his state-of-the-art invention.

Stay tuned in!

Update: Rajnikant is doing the film now as Aamir turned down the offer.

Aamir Khan's style statement

With every movie, Bollywood's much-loved hero sports a new look and makes a new style statement.

While Taare Zameen Par sees Aamir Khan as an art teacher (sleeveless sweaters and a mohawk), his summer 2008 venture Ghajini remake, has him working out to get a six-pack.

Lets have a look on some of Aamir's most popular getups:
Tapori cool: The jazzy costume with a cap in Rangeela (1995) was followed by tight T-shirts and a heavy, scary looking ring on every finger in Ghulam (1998). Whether it was the famous train run or the Aati Kya Khandala track, Aamir made tapori-giri look super cool.

Rebel with a role: In Lagaan, Aamir had the dusky complexion of a peasant.

For Mangal Pandey The Rising, he had long hair and a thick moustache.

In Rang De Basanti, he sported wild, curly locks, carelessly falling on his forehead.

"All three characters were revolutionaries leading from the front. But while Lagaan and Mangal Pandey were set in the pre-independence era, RDB's DJ had to exude as much power for a similar cause, but in the 21st century. He got all three looks bang on," says stylist Gouri Kapur.

Double act: "Fanaa was not a fashionable film. So we had to make sure Aamir maintained a cool, normal, hip look, while a dark, stone-hearted terrorist lurked in the shadows," says Mamta Anand, who styled the actor in Kunal Kohli's flick.

And since the film was set in Delhi in winter, Mamta gave Aamir vibrant mufflers, wristbands and bracelets and a red chilly locket.

"I'd given Aamir different layers, in keeping with his dual character. We were also aware that he would wear only one costume throughout the second half. So, his dark image is spotted only once, when he's dressed in black with this hair gelled back," says Mamta.
Head to toe: Aamir's goatee in Dil Chahta Hai became a rage among college boys!

"Almost every guy in his late teens or early 20s has sported a small goatee post DCH," says Gouri. Most actors stick as close as possible to their original styles, but not Aamir, says Mamta.

"The perfectionist that he is, he doesn't care what others think. And if he is confident that his director and stylists know what they are doing, he gets really comfortable and is all the more willing to experiment," she says.

Gouri adds, "For Aamir, his character is not just about his dialogues and expressions. He has to look the character from head to toe and he lives it throughout the film's making. He is versatility personified."

Brand Aamir: "He is an ever-changing entity, constantly re-inventing himself. He has grown from being a boy next door to a mature actor," says brand expert Harish Bijoor.

"He is the 'elder statesman of younger actors'. Aamir is very passionate about his work. And this is evident even in the products he chooses to endorse. Even his ads stand out from the rest. Brand Aamir is one of the most talked about success stories," says Harish.

Next, fab abs: It's official. Aamir is going bald for AR Murugadass's Hindi remake of Ghajini!

He has even lost 11 kgs to achieve a lean, mean physique for the role. Aamir has been given a tailor-made diet program by his nutrition consultant.

Watch out for his six-pack abs!

Aamir Khan’s free act!

Everyone is aware that Aamir Khan is one of the highest paid actors in Bollywood.

According to trade reports, he got around 20 crores for his forthcoming untitled film which is Gajini's remake.

However very few people know that if he believes in a cause then he can do things even without charging a single penny!

Recently for a promotional event of Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan met and spent a day with kids from an NGO. While interacting with them he become so moved with their plight that he volunteered to do a series of promos for them free of cost to help these kids out.

Now that's a noble thought!

Aamir Khan turns down Madame Tussauds

Bollywood star Aamir Khan was approached earlier in the year by Madame Tussauds in London to be the fourth Bollywood figure to be waxed on the famed celebrity museum of London.

However the star declined the offer, saying "It's not important to me. I have been approached but I am not interested. People will see my films if they want to.

Also, I can't deal with so many things, I have bandwidth only for that much. So things that don't interest me, I just let them pass. Each one has their own priorities on what interests them."

Amitabh Bachchan was the first man from the Indian film industry to have a wax statue in Tussauds, followed by the former Ms.World and star actress Aishwarya Bachchan, and then superstar Shah Rukh Khan and now next in line is Salman Khan.

Aamir Khan refuses 20 crores for one film!

Lately actor Aamir Khan has been all over the place.

After the debacle of loosing his brother's custody and then being accused by writer-director Amol Gupte for stealing his script of Taare Zameen Par, Aamir seems to be in a fresh controversy.

According to sources, the actor has now gone ahead and refused a chunky deal of Rs 20 crores from a leading corporate house!

This will be the first time that Aamir has been offered a deal as big as this. What's more the corporate was also willing to go ahead and pay him the entire amount on signing the deal itself.

But Aamir choose not to co-operate as the corporate did not have any script to put on offer.

The corporate even reasoned out with the actor by saying that the subject can be chosen later once the actor has signed the deal.

But Aamir wouldn't budge and said that he would get back to the company or vice versa if he came across a script which appealed to him.

Well looks like only time will tell if Aamir's virtuous decision was right or wrong.

But one thing is for sure..the actor surely puts his mind before money, by not getting lured even for an offer as big as this one!

Video: Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par

Having released the first look of his film, Taare Zameen Par to public foremost, on the film's official website and then later releasing it worldwide, Aamir indirectly has strengthened the faith of his audiences in him and his debut directorial.

Watch the promo and you are moved by the simplicity and the purity of the subject. 'Every child is special' reads the tag line and that is exactly what you see in this eagerly awaited trailer.

The gregariousness of children, their innocence, laughter, playfulness, are all captured so naturally and perfectly that you don't feel like you are watching a film. The first few minutes of the promo definitely tugs at your heart and automatically involves you in being a part of them without you even realizing it.

But like all trailers end leaving a hint that there is more to what you see, Taare Zameen Par too, in the end frame, speaks volumes.

With Aamir and the main child artist, Darsheel gazing into space asking the audience a silent question, you are left confirmed thinking that there is more to the story than it tells.

"My choice of films is governed by my heart and instinct. I'm not governed by what the market demands. I loved the script of Taare Zameen Par and that's why I agreed to be a part of it. It's very simple. When I'm reading a script, I react to it as a member of the audience. If it excites me, I want to do it, irrespective of the budget." (An excerpt from his detailed interview)

Produced & directed by Aamir Khan , Taare Zameen Par has music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and is slated for a December 21 release.

Aamir Khan chatted with me!!

Ok guys i want to share something with you all :o)

We had told you earlier about Aamir Khan launching his personal website on Oct 10.

What I never expected was...a chat with Mr.Perfectionist himself!!! (see screenshots below)

For a bigger picture click here!

For a bigger picture click here!

I logged in at www.aamirkhan.com at exactly 9pm yesterday and there were already 300 people logged in! My chances of getting selected were narrow however I still hanged around.

As soon as Aamir came onto his website (we can see him through the webcam..remember?) the public went beserek!!

It was a complete "online madness" as people start typing furiously, craving for Aamir's attention, chanting his name, his movies and a constant request for picking them up for a one-on-one chat.

As expected, the server crashed twice and Aamir had to personally visit the tech support team's office in Mumbai!

What amazed me was that Aamir was in constant touch with his online audience through his laptop (using data card). So even when he was stuck in a traffic jam, he jotted down the following lines on his blog:

"I should be there in 15 mts. Thank god for this blog. At least I can keep you'll posted. am using my wirefree connection on my lap top stay online. Was using this same laptop to chat. Was not having any problem with the net connection. For some reason my chat window was hanging on me. I believe the tech team at the office are testing the chat and I am told it working from there. Almost there now."

I spend around 10 minutes with him. He asked me about where I'm from, what I do and whether I liked his website (you bet!).

I told him that apart from my day job, I do have a blog on Bollywood and gave him the link also which he noted down.

Thank you Aamir for selecting me among the 300+ audience :o)

More details of Aamir Khan chat conversation.
