Mallika Sherawat to act in Drew Heriot's movie based on Jesus Christ, The Aquarian Gospel

Mallika Sherawat is to play the role of Jesus Christ's confidante in an American film, The Aquarian Gospel.

Australian-born Drew Heriot - director of the docu-feature - The Secret (2006) - which sold the largest number of DVDs in the US that year - is at the helm of the film.

The Bible is silent on Christ's life between 13 and 30, and down the centuries, many theories have been constructed about what he did in these years.

Among the more popular beliefs is that Christ visited Kashmir.

Heriot's film chronicles Jesus' journey from Israel as a young boy, through India, Tibet, Persia, Greece and Egypt. In the movie, he encounters people of all creeds and meets sages from different faiths.

Mallika will play Saraswati - one of Yeshua's (Jesus) loyal friends - whom he bonds with, while he travels through India.

Heriot says that Mallika is not just a pretty face, she is versatile, has a background in philosophy, and so, she will convey the richness of the subject matter.

The actress - who has broken taboos in the Indian film industry with bold movies such as Khwahish and Murder - feels The Aquarian Gospel also breaks a different kind of taboo by discussing the lost years of Jesus.

"I find that in most mythological and spiritual film stories, women seem to be lacking in any true wisdom or a sense of humour. I look forward to bringing both these qualities to this character," said Mallika.

Mallika Sherawat to play a prostitute-turned-politician in Kundan Shah's Masquerade

Best known for her sultry roles, Mallika Sherawat is all set to go serious in Kundan Shah's political satire, Masquerade.

The bold actor will play the female lead in the film that will go on the floors early next year.

According to Times Of India's source, "Mallika is extremely excited about working with Kundan Shah. She loved the script as well as her character. The film is about a small-town girl from Satara, who makes a journey from being a prostitute to a chief minister."

Kundan Shah said, "The story is about a woman who goes from being a prostitute to a politician. It is very interesting but a challenging role. I am looking forward to starting the film early next year."

Mallika Sherawat: Queen of cameos!

The undisputed sex bomb of Bollywood has sadly relegated herself to mere cameo appearances in all her films released in 2007.

The year began on a thumping note for Mallika Sherawat, as she belly-danced to Turkish tunes in the song Maiyya Maiyya in Mani Ratnam's film Guru.

Though Mallika had just one-song appearance in the film, she did scintillate in those five minutes of screen-time she got at the very beginning of the movie.

Then came another hot number.

This time it was the modernized version of the cult song Mehbooba Mehbooba, arguably the mother of all item numbers, in Himesh Reshammiya's acting debut, Aap Ka Suroor.

Though the song did not turn out to be a rage among music buffs, Mallika did manage to catch attention with her Helen-esque gyrations in gypsy costumes.

And now, as the year draws to a close, ready for release is Anees Bazmee's comedy Welcome, which has Mallika in a special appearance once again.

However, after a rather lackluster 2007, Mallika is looking forward to two Bollywood films next year that has her in main roles. And these two flicks are: Ugly And Pagli with Ranvir Shorey and Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam with Rahul Bose.

Her comedy film Fauj Mein Mauj has been stuck on the floors and is likely to be made again under a new director. And there is also no news about her international venture, Unveiled.

Mallika Sherawat learns kickboxing

It is no secret that Mallika loves to workout to maintain her svelte figure. But her newfound penchant for kickboxing is somewhat perplexing.

Reports say the actress has been practicing kickboxing not so much for her self-defense as for physical fitness. Moreover, the hot belle is reported to have roped in a trainer and is learnt to be reading books on kickboxing.

Sources say that because Mallika is making her foray into international cinema she wants to look absolutely fit, and kickboxing is one way to do it.

Mallika Sherawat in Pritish Nandy's Ugly Aur Pagli

Mallika Sherawat has been finalized for the lead role in a film by Pritish Nandy Communications.

Mallika will play the female lead in PNC's next romantic comedy titled Ugly Aur Pagli, to be directed by Sachin Khot.

The movie will have Mallika playing Pagli and Ranvir Shorey as Ugly.

Mallika Sherawat in Feroz Khan's Kurbani

Who can forget the sensuousness of Zeenat Aman in Feroz Khan's 1980 movie Qurbani in which she played a nightclub dancer named Sheela.

Zeenat's oomph in songs like Laila O Laila and Hum Tumhe Chahte Hain Aise still lingers in the memories of her fans.

Now, Mallika Sherawat is all set to take the daunting task of replaying the same role in Feroz Khan's modern-day remake of the film, titled as Kurbani.

In the film, Mallika will be paired with Fardeen Khan who plays the role enacted by his father in the original film.

Hunt is still on for another hero to play the role enacted by Vinod Khanna. Saif Ali Khan was initially finalized for the part, but the actor opted out of the project due to date problems.

Feroz Khan himself will play the gum-chewing cop, played by Amjad Khan in Qurbani .

Mallika has 62 scripts in hand!

Just when we were wondering where the Quotable Queen had disappeared to, and the gossip was that Mallika Sherawat hardly had any films in her kitty, comes interesting news.

The buzz is that she has no less than 62 scripts on hand!

Reveals a source, "Mallika doesn't want to take up any and all films that are offered to her. She's busy with Unveiled which will begin soon and she's doing Fauj Mein Mauj. Then there's Welcome with Anil Kapoor, which is complete. Besides these, she hasn't signed anything."

Apparently, Mallika has burnt her fingers earlier by selecting bad scripts such as Kis Kis Ki Kismet and Bachke Rehna Re Baba, and she's become quite wary about committing the same mistakes again.

After being part of such a good script as Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Mallika has tasted blood and she refuses to meet anybody who doesn't have a sound script.

Also, with the actress making enough money through her item numbers (remember Aap Ka Surroor and Guru?), moolah is not exactly a criteria for her selecting films right now, it seems.

She may have been in the news recently for making big bucks from small appearances, but now reports are that Bollywood sex-kitten Mallika Sherawat has signed a film for free.

The lucky producer is Ronnie Screwvala whose next unnamed film has been signed by Mallika for free.

Mallika has been in the news recently because of her ten-minute Rs. 1.5 crore act in Himesh Reshammiya's debut movie as an actor Aap Ka Suroor and this was not the first time she did an expensive stint.

Earlier too, Mallika charged a huge amount for just an item song in Guru and how can one forget the new year bash where she has been paid in lakhs for a ten-minute performance by a Mumbai based five star hotel.

Mallika Sherawat in Asia's 100 Most Beautiful People list!

Mallika Sherawat obviously seems to be the favourite of the Chinese.

First she bagged a role in Jackie Chan 's film The Myth and walked the red carpet with him at the Cannes film festival and now a magazine in Hong Kong has listed her as one of the 100 most beautiful people in Asia.

Cover is one of Hong Kong's premiere luxury fashion magazines. This monthly claims to be a leading authority on fashion, beauty and entertainment in the Asia Pacific region. Editor Ellie O'Ready says, "We feel that Mallika is truly one of the 100 most beautiful people in Asia and our list just wouldn't be complete without her."

The other personalities on the beautiful list include actors, models, television presenters and socialites from Asia. The magazine now plans to do a special feature with the Murder babe within a month or two.

Pricey Mallika set to shoot 'Mehbooba' song

Oomph girl Mallika Sherawat is all set to shoot the song Mehbooba for Himesh Reshamiiya's Aap Kaa Surroor from May 29. Apparently, the actress has charged Rs.1.4 million for the 10-minute appearance.

Mallika has made an appearance in the song Ya Ali too but Mehbooba is a full-fledged song picturised on her.

Mallika to play villain in Aap Ka Suroor

Actress, item girl, high profile stage show performer, nine-minute-claim-to-fame in a Jackie Chan film and another one going to be ‘Unveiled’ soon, it’s time Mallika Sherawat turned bad in a big way.

According to reliable sources, Mayya Mayya babe is all set to do play a negative character in man-with-the-cap Himesh Reshammiya’s debut film as an actor ‘Aap Ka Suroor’.

Produced by Vinay Tarneja and directed by Prashant Chadha, ‘Aap Ka Suroor’ is all set for a worldwide release on June 29th. A fresh new face Riya is being introduced along with Himesh.

The same sources confirmed that Mallika’s character is pivotal to the story and one out of the seven tracks may be centred around her as well.

Mallika Bags Hollywood Movie

What's with Mallika Sherawat impressing foreign directors? At first, it was Jackie Chan in Myth, and now it is Bill Bannerman, Hollywood stalwart Clint Eastwood's right-hand man. After screening faces across continents for his mainstream Hollywood film Unveiled, the director has given the nod to Mallika.

Mallika's will be seen in a highly performance-oriented role (finally!). Bannerman says, "Behind the dark burkha, there lies a sexy, manipulative victim, whose life is in grave danger. But she is very dangerous too." The film revolves around the life of a Muslim woman who has two husbands and a lover. It will be a blend of film noir, thriller and dark drama.

Bill has been working on the casting for a long time now and considered many actresses for the role, before zeroing in on Mallika, that is. Sources reveal, "Hillary Swank and Penelope Cruz had shown interest, but they wanted the actress to be a South Asian or from the Middle East so that she could portray the character of a Muslim woman from the Middle East, and lend a degree of authenticity in terms of accent, body language, knowledge of customs, etc."

Closer home, Mallika managed to beat actresses Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty to it. "Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty were strong contenders. But speculations are rife that Aishwarya Rai had date problems and her impending marriage plans would have been a possible hindrance. As for Shilpa Shetty, she only has a big name. In reality, she still hasn't signed anything worthwhile so far," says a source.

Mallika's visa costs producer Rs. 2 crore

Mallika Sherawat is currently shooting with Kamal Hassan for his Tamil film Dasavatharam. It is said that this will be one of the most expensive films to be made in the country and well, Mallika has added to the budget of the film in her own way.

A particular song in the film was supposed to be shot at different locations in the US. The entire cast and crew could make it to the States except Mallika Sherawat. Reason being, her visa expired at the eleventh hour. The production had no other option but to shift the location to Malaysia. The entire crew had to be shifted to Kuala Lumpur just for Mallika’s sake. One of the sources said that this entire shift of location itself cost them about Rs. 2 crore.

Dasavatharam stars Kamal Hassan and Mallika Sherwat in lead roles. According to sources, Mallika plays a CIA agent in the film. The music of the film is given by Himesh Reshammiya.

Mallika’s secret visit to Qatar

Last week Mallika Sherawat made a quiet visit to Qatar. She was specially invited by the King of Qatar, Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, to be a part of his daughter princess Myasa’s wedding.

According to sources, princess Myasa is a good friend of Mallika. Mallika didn’t perform at the wedding but was only present as a guest.

Mallika held in Obscenity Act

Bollywood siren Mallika Sherawat gave a performance on New Year’s Eve at hotel J W Marriot, Mumbai. First she made news for charging a bomb for the less than hour-long performance. Then rumours of her molesting a co-dancer took the rounds. And now, she has been charged with an obscenity case against her.

Onlookers raised eyebrows when the actress performed in a body-hugging skin suit and a silver bikini to top it. Social activist Vinod Jain has written to the Mumbai police, urging them to take immediate action against Sherawat for wearing suggestive clothes. He saw Sherawat's performance on certain television channels on New Year’s Eve and found it very offensive to the Indian culture. He said that the manner in which Mallika was dancing was very distasteful, and it portrays the Indian woman indecently.

Jain approached the Santa Cruz police station to look into the matter since the hotel lies within its jurisdiction. However, additional Commissioner of Police Bipin Bihari said that there has been no formal complaint filed as yet.

The verdict will be out in the next few days. It seems like Mallika has already started making headlines at the beginning of this New Year!
