Upen Patel’s debut film was Abbas Mustan’s 36 China Town which released last year. Upen’s performance in the film was highly appreciated by the masses. And now, he is busy shooting for two major films. One is Vipul Shah’s Namastey London which also stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif and Suneel Darshan’s Shakalaka Boom Boom which stars Bobby Deol, Celina Jaitley and Kangna Ranaut.
But now, Upen Patel may have heaved a sigh of relief since he finally gets his few seconds of glory in the film's publicity....well almost! The solitary shot featuring him in the latest promo of the film has him getting ONE TIGHT SLAP from Pakistani veteran actor Jawed Sheikh, who has an important role to play in the film.
Slap taken, some 'zor ka jhatka' and over and out! That's all what is revealed about young Upen in this Vipul Amritlal Shah film. One hopes the hot blood has something more to offer when the film arrives on March 09.
When Upen Patel was signed for Vipul Shah's 'Namaste London', it made big news for the hot shot newcomer. This was because after '36 China Town', a biggie like this with Akshay Kumar in the lead spelt a good career move en route to consolidation of his position in the world of Bollywood.
Surprisingly Upen is still waiting for his moment of limelight in the publicity of 'Namaste London' even as the film's promos have been on air for around a month. While the publicity kick started with specially crafted Chirstmas promo 'Jingle Balle', it was followed by 'Chakna Chakna', a UK bhangra pop number set in a discotheque!
Ever since then, the only two stars around which the film's publicity is revolving are Akshay and Katrina who made for a decent pair in 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye' last year.
Slated to release on 9th March, there are still a few weeks to go before the film's promotion catches on full steam. During this period, one waits to see when does Upen finally fit into the scheme of things to make his presence felt in the film.
Bollywood action hero Akshay Kumar's appearance during the filming of ``Namaste London'''' or ``Hello London'''' left his fellow actor Upen Patel tongue tied, a newspaper reported Monday. Kumar recently turned up to watch an emotional scene being acted out by co-star Patel, said director Vipul Shah. Patel had been performing well, but when he spotted Kumar seated quietly near a television monitor, he turned jittery and began fumbling. ``Upen just couldn''t deliver his dialogue,'''' Shah told the Mumbai Mirror newspaper. ``We kept on doing retakes and even after 20 retakes Upen couldn''t deliver the scene.'''' Shah finally asked Kumar to leave the set so Patel could complete the shot. Patel acknowledged he was intimidated by Kumar's presence. ``He's my role model and I became very conscious of his presence,'''' Patel said. Martial arts expert Kumar, 39, has acted in more than 70 movies over the past 15 years. His string of successes include movies such as ``Phir Hera Pheri'''' (Some More Hustling) and ``Garam Masala'''' (Hot Spice). Bollywood newcomer, Patel, 26, has acted in one Bollywood movie ``36 China Town'''' that was released this year.
The director wants to ensure that this movie turns out to be the model-turned-actor's big break, which is why he has decided to shoot a special title track for Upen.
The song is going to cost the director a whopping Rs.2.5 crore! Here's why. The song will be shot in New York over four days and will feature a hundred girls flanking Upen! It has specially been choreographed by South African professional Tyrone Watkins. As sources have it, the director was very impressed by Watkin's musical act "Fusion" – a Bollywood love story.
The music is going to be composed by the inescapable king of pop Himesh Reshammiya, who claims that this song will outshine the "Aashiqui" track from 36 China Town. Darshan is also roping in a UK-based artist to sing the track. Inevitably, the track will be used as the first promotion of the movie. Justifying the cost of the song, Darshan said that quantity is not important, quality is the priority.
The director has put Bobby Deol on the map by casting him in his movies Barsaat and Dosti. We wonder if his efforts will bring fame to Upen as well! Shakalaka Boom Boom is slated to release on Valentines Day next year.
