Campaign for Sanjay

/photo.cms?msid=747903 He might have left his mark as Khalnayak (the villain), but he is the virtually undisputed hero of the Bollywood fraternity. Convicted under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, actor Sanjay Dutt grows more and more anxious as his sentencing approaches. But he's not alone.

In a massive show of solidarity, Dutt's Bollywood friends and fellow actors will boycott work on December 12, when the TADA judge is to decide on the quantum of the actor's sentence.

"He's already been in jail for two years. If he would have been a terrorist, fine, you could have given him any punishment, but I think this punishment is quite sufficient for him," said Sanjay's friend T P Agarwal whho also happens to be the president of the IMPA (Indian Motion Pictures Association)

"While Bollywood plays its part, the drama isn't going down well with special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who led the prosecution against Dutt's 13-year trial.

"Senior actor Sanjay Dutt has already stated the grounds for which leniency must be shown to him. When the matter is subjudice, this is an indirect attempt to bring pressure upon the court as well as the prosecuting agency," said Ujjwal Nikam to TIMES NOW.

"If I am the judge, hypothetically, I would say look here, those who want to advocate for Sanjay for mercy must come in the court and do it. Sanjay himself can do it, or his legally appointed counsel can do it - but no people on the streets can influence me - even if the whole nation were to come with a banner saying 'show mercy to Sanjay', I am not going to budge," was Criminal lawyer Adv Majeed Memon's take.
