In the Oscar longlist

After inspiring millions of Indians, the songs of Rang De Basanti are making waves on the international scene. Two songs of this film Khalballi and Lukka Chuppi have made it to what is called the Oscar longlist in the Best Original Song category for the Oscars in the 79th Annual Academy Awards.

"It is a wonderful feeling. I have not heard of such a thing happening in the past. These are songs in Rahman and in my personal space," said Prasoon Joshi, Lyricist of Rang De Bansanti reacting to the news.

With this music director, A R Rahman is pitted against the likes of rockers Sheryl Crow and Audioslave lead singer Chris Cornell for the coveted final 5 nominations.

It is not just two songs from Rang De Basanti, there's also Chan Chan from Water, music for which has also been composed by Rahman, found a place in the Oscar longlist.

Currently there are 56 songs being considered in this category and the final nominations will be announced on January 23 and the awards ceremony will be held a month later.
