Sneak peek at RGV's Sholay
But what's more interesting is that an all out newcomer Prashant Raj Sachdev will step into the legendary role of Jai played by the formidable Amitabh Bachchan.
In the original Sholay, Bachchan was the serious one of the Jai-Veeru duo. However, this version sees a complete role reversal with Jai being the more lively character, which might then explain Ajay Devgan being the chosen one for Veeru's character.
Nisha Kothari is the tom boyish 'Ghungroo' -- the rickshaw driver, a far cry from Hema Malini's Basanti who rode her Dhanno. Clad in a tee-shirt, jeans and bandana to boot Nisha is Ramu's latest blue eyed baby after Antra Mali. While Hema won over the viewers with her inane natter one wonders if the audience will lend their ears as easily to 'Ghungroo'.
Diva Sushmita Sen is 'Devi' plays the role of the widow 'Radha' essayed by Jaya Bachchan in the original. While Jaya was seen as demure and vulnerable, Sush is quite an anti-thesis to that image.
And now, the casting coup of the year - none other than the erstwhile Jai stepping into the shoes of the dreaded dacoit character of 'Gabbar'. Amitabh Bachchan is all set to don the garb of Gabaar. With one eye red and the other green and a scar on his nose – Big B looks like a quite a well put together gangster. While Soutehrn superstar Mohanlal will step into the shoes of Sanjeev Kumar by playing the role of 'Thakur' now callled Inspetcor Ranveer. Ramu's nonchalant brand of cinema has usually bordered on the unconventional, but will the director come on tops with this unconventional casting - we don't know, but what we know, is that Gabbar is Ramu's trump card in this venture.
