Shah Rukh Khan to re-make Deewar?

There seems to be a love-hate relationship between actor Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

Over the years Bachchan has ruled Bollywood and continues to be in the ace league. And Shah Rukh, as we all know, is not called the Badshah Khan for nothing. He rules too.

According to industry sources, SRK is most keen to remake Amitabh Bachchan 's Deewar and has already finalised the star-cast of the flick and has even approached Yash Chopra, the original director of Deewar, to direct it!

Apparently SRK, we hear, is very fond of Bachchan 's character Vijay in the classic 1975 action flick, and wants to don a similar garb and play a similar role, because of which he has cast himself as Vijay.

Rumours also have it that he wants hot Bollywood-pair Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor to play the roles that Shashi Kapoor and Neetu Singh played in the original while Priyanka Chopra has been considered for Parveen Babi's role. Boman Irani will be seen playing Iftekhar's role and Shefali Shah Nirupa Roy's.

However, most people claim not to have heard of this.

Filmmaker Yash Chopra's office, too maintained the same. "We haven't heard of any such thing, and aren't aware of it."

If the alleged venture will be produced by SRK himself under his home-banner Red Chillies Entertainment, the big question that still remains is: Has Shah Rukh acquired rights of the film?

Deewar was produced under the banner of Trimurti Films of late Producer Gulshan Rai. Thus his son, filmmaker Rajiv Rai has the rights of the film. Rajiv Rai is based in the UK and is currently not reachable for confirmation.

Well, we'll just have to wait and watch if these rumours have enough strength in them. Will SRK actually build this Deewar, or will he simply break it down by rubbishing the rumours?

Stay tuned in!

Rani plays an angel in the next Yash Raj movie

After giving such a grandly understated performance as the archetypal Fallen Woman in Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Rani rises straight for heaven in the next Yashraj film where she plays an angel descending to earth with a rather sweet and heartwarming mission.

While Mr Bachchan plays God, ghost and djinn in God Tussi Great Ho, Bhootnath and Alladin respectively, Esha Deol has already played a ghost in Darling. But no one has played an angel in Hindi movies before.

Rani, apparently, took her angel's role very seriously, even going as far as to abstain from her favourite fish dishes to feel the pure and positive energy of an angel.

Says a reliable Yashraj source, "It's not easy playing an angel. It's a character absolutely without a reference point. Rani has gone into her inner resources to create the character."

Kareena to be seen in bikini in Tashan!

What's up with today's heroines?

It seems that irrespective of whatever amount of substantial roles they must have done in their careers, it is only when they do a bikini scene (coz the script demands it/ has been shot aesthetically etc.), their careers seem to be reaching a crescendo or maybe at least they like to believe it.

After the likes of Tanisha and Bipasha testing the waters of the bikini land in films like Neal N Nikki and Dhoom 2 respectively, the radar has now turned towards Kareena Kapoor, who is all set to wear a bikini for Yash Raj Films' Tashan.

The shoot is being scheduled for February 2008, for which she is reportedly preparing herself to be in shape.

After all, a good figure on screen will fetch you good figures off-screen (read Box Office collections).

Kangana Ranaut bares her soul

She was only 18 when she signed her first film - Gangster - and from then on there's been no stopping for Kangana Ranaut , who has made a definite mark for herself in Bollywood.

She recently gave an interview to Times Of India in which she opens up her heart and gets candid on various memories:

Did you always want to be an actress?
In my hometown Himachal, we didn't have a single theatre. If someone would get a DVD in the village, we would all circulate it, such was the scene there.

It's quite backward and I didn't know half of the actors from the industry then. I knew Preity Zinta because she is from the hills and looks like a fresh apple! When I used to watch films never did I once imagine that someday people would watch me too on the big screen.

So how did acting happen?
I was a science student and wanted to be a doctor. I used to study for 19 hours a day and secure around 90 per cent. Even in severe winters, I used to get up at 3 am and sit to study. But I failed to clear my pre-medical test and that was a turning point in my life.

That's when I decided I didn't want to study anymore and wanted to move out of my house. I wanted my space and freedom so I moved to Delhi and lived there with a friend. But even then, I didn't know what I wanted to do. A modelling agency spotted me and liked me because of my curly hair and lean body.

They said they would groom me and send me for shows to Paris. But gradually I felt being a model was as good as being a mannequin and there was no scope for creativity, that's when I took up theatre in Delhi.

Do you feel lonely up there?
Yes, I do feel lonely. I don't have a single friend in the industry and often feel a vaccum inside. I read a book or do meditation in my spare time. I feel all of us are lonely, we only pretend to be happy.

Life is so short and people play so many games. They talk bad about others and don't have a single good thing to say about others. Sometimes I wonder why people waste their lives in such a way.

Don't smoke in public Shahrukh!

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has been issued a legal notice by an NGO - National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) - for smoking in public during two recent events - the Twenty20 cricket match in Mumbai and Hindustan Times Summit in Delhi.

"Images of Shah Rukh Khan inhaling smoke were shown on Doordarshan during its telecast of the Twenty20 cricket match in Mumbai on October 20. The national television channel's telecast of such outrageous images is another act worth condemnation," NOTE general secretary Dr Shekhar Salkar said.

Prior to this incident, SRK was shown sitting on the dais with a lighted cigarette in his hand during the Hindustan Times Summit in Delhi on October 12 and 13, NOTE said.

"A superstar, imitated and adored by millions cannot lend a helping hand to promote smoking," Salkar added.

Relief for Salman in poaching case

Honouring the Rajasthan High Court's August 31 order, Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Wednesday appeared before the registry of the court in connection with the chinkara poaching case.

Salman is expected to stay away from the court's proceedings for the next five to eight years as his case has been referred to judicial backlog, which means it will now be taken up in routine course, his lawyer said.

Salman, who arrived in Jodhpur on Tuesday night, appeared before the deputy registrar of HC on Wednesday morning and marked his attendance by signing on his case file.

"The high court will now hear his case in due course and he need not mark his presence before it till his turn comes for hearing," said Salman's lawyer H M Saraswat.

Salman was sentenced to five years' imprisonment by the lower court and had been lodged in Jodhpur's central jail in August before he received the bail from the high court.

I will get a new hairstyle for this film. It will be as popular as my hairstyle in Tere Naam. I want a different kind of look that will become a style statement," Salman said.

When asked was he prepared to stay in a jungle, Salman exclaimed, "Of course! Tarzan lived in a jungle with wild animals. You will see that element in my film too. I only hope animal activists don't come after my life before the film begins!" he laughed.

On Saturday, the actor got a minor reprieve as he did not receive his judgment copy, because it was not ready then.

However, the court had handed over the 4,340-page judgment to 13 convicts that day, including 10 who have been awarded the death sentence.

Sanjay, who was sentenced to six-year rigorous imprisonment on July 31, had spent a few weeks in Pune's Yeravada jail before being granted interim bail by the Supreme Court.

It came as no surprise when Shimit Amin's Chak De! India, a gritty tale of Indian women hockey players that also starred 90 Australian players and over 9,000 Australian extras, won the Best Film Award at the 5th Australian Indian Film Festival gala night in Sydney today.

Indian heartthrob Akshaye Khanna received the Best Performance Award for his role in Gandhi My Father at the glittering ceremony hosted for the first time at the Museum of Contemporary Arts, situated on the Harbour foreshore overlooking the iconic Opera House.

The awards were chosen by an esteemed group of Australian film critics, including Peter Thompson (Showtime), Margaret Pomeranz (ABC TV At The Movies), Nell Schofield (Channel 9), Marc Fennell (Triple J), Adrienne McKibbons (Metro Magazine) and Ian Taylor (ABC TV).

Back home, Chak De! India has won applause from audiences and critics alike.

"I am encouraged to do something different. Chak De! India has been great for Indian audiences at home and abroad," Amin said.

The Sydney festival, which has writer and director Yash Chopra as its patron, is attended by over 40,000 people each year.

Contrary to reports the shooting of Kohli 's film doesn't end in December but February. But that's ok. They'll now announce a fresh wedding date on Rani's behalf," says a source very close to Rani.

Farhan Akhtar talks about Positive, Fakir Of Venice and Don 2

He is what one would call as the brooding face of the Indian cinema's present phase! He is the son of the master lyricist, Javed Akhtar. And it did not take time for Farhan Akhtar to move out of his father's shadows and carve a niche' for himself.

Here is an interview he gave to IndiaFM in which he talks in detail about his upcoming projects:

Tell us something about the film on AIDS that you made for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. What is the story of the film?
Positive is a 12-minute film with no music, but its background score is by Ram Sampat. The film stars Boman Irani, Shabana Azmi and debutant actor, Arjun Mathur and the film was entirely shot in Mumbai. It talks about the importance of family's support to a person suffering with HIV. Just as a social stigma, many people believe that a HIV patient should be isolated and have certain misconceptions about dealing with the disease. India has a lot of joint families. So, it's very important for the families to understand the value of support to the person who has acquired this disease.

Considering the fact that there were other directors too, like Mira Nair, Santosh Sivan, Vishal Bhardwaj, whose film did u like the most and why?
It's really difficult to say. But, the one that film that appealed to me visually was Vishal Bhardwaj's. It's a film that has a very strong and obvious optimistic message with a happy ending. I like the way it was done and visualized.

How did this entire deal happen? Who initiated it?
It was initiated by Mira Nair. It's totally her project. She contacted me and asked me if I wanted to make one of the short films. And I was game for it.

You have already acted in The Fakir of Venice. Tell us something more about the film.
The film is complete and is in its final sound mixing stage. Anand Sorapur, the producer-director of the film desires to take this film and screen it for a couple of studios to the west. This film is basically a black comedy and about two characters, that's Anu Kapoor (playing the fakir) and there's me, in the role of a character called Adi Contractor, who works as a production coordinator, for shoots in India and is given the task of taking the Fakir to Venice for human instillation. The story takes on from there.

Dil Chahta Hai is getting digitalized. What's the difference between the original and the digital version of Dil Chahta Hai?
The original version was a straight transfer of the negative to make a DVD, where as the latest thing is that we have recently done a high definition transfer, by which we have cleaned the entire print on a Digital Intermediate (DI). So, now, the resultant picture is a lot cleaner without any marks, scratches or dust. We have also redone the picture, remastered the sound as per today's available technology. So, it's just a fresher picture and sound.

So, does that mean that all the films from the Excel stable will be digital?
Subsequently, after Dil Chahta Hai, Don, Lakshya and Honeymoon Travels were on digital process. We could not do Dil Chahta Hai on a digital, coz' this technology was not available then.

What can one look up to from Excel Films? And what's the progress on the much talked about sequel, Don 2?
As far as the future projects of Excel Films are concerned, we have an untitled film with Abhishek Kapoor, which gets started in January, Zoya's Luck By Chance starting in March, and my next project will start in September. As far as Don 2 is concerned, the story is done and it is in its screenplay stage.

Rumors are strong about the presence of Aamir in the film. Do you want to confirm this?
I have never heard about this rumor. I am hearing it from you from the first time!

It's Official: Saif-Kareena are seeing each other!

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has finally admitted dating Kareena Kapoor.

At Manish Malhotra's fashion show for the Lakme Fashion Week, Saif admitted to his relationship with Kareena saying, "Yes, we are not exactly shouting from the rooftops but yes, clearly we are together. And we are happy together."

Reports of a romantic linkup between 27-year-old Kareena and 37-year-old Saif first surfaced while the two were shooting for Yashraj Films ' Tashan on locations in Ladakh and Rajasthan.

Saif had been single for months now, since his break-up with girlfriend Rozza, and has since been linked to Bipasha Basu and Dia Mirza.

As their romance intensified, Kareena unceremoniously dumped Shahid Kapoor in August end, while he was shooting in Toronto, Canada.

Vishal Bharadwaj's next movie is inspired by Fearless Nadia

After making Maqbool, Omkara and Blue Umbrella, Vishal is now inspired from the life of Mary Evans, Bollywood's first stuntwoman who is better known as Fearless Nadia.

Nadia defied the convention by playing an action heroine in the 1935 movie Hunterwali in which she showed remarkable spunk that put many male actors of that era to shame.

For a period of 35 years (till 1970) Nadia worked in more than thirty Bollywood projects. She married director Homi Wadia. She lived in Mumbai until her death in 1996.

The story of Fearless Nadia has inspired Bharadwaj to make a film on her life. The director has been searching a suitable actress to play Nadia. He had approached Hollywood actress Uma Thurman but a deal could not be reached.

Meanwhile, Bharadwaj has been scouting for the film's shooting locations in West Bengal.

Stay tuned in!

First Look: A still from Farhan Akhtar's Positive

Positive, as the name suggests, is all about a good 'frame' of mind. And this is exactly what Farhan Akhtar has done, in his latest short film by the same name, which is a 12-minute film.

The film has no music, but with a background score, that is done by Ram Sampat. It's a film where every 'frame' deals very sensitively about a family's support to a person suffering with HIV.

Talking about the film, Farhan says, "The film was entirely shot in Mumbai and stars Boman Irani, Shabana Azmi and debutant actor, Arjun Mathur. Just as a social stigma, many people believe that a HIV patient should be isolated and have certain misconceptions about dealing with the disease.

And since, India has a lot of joint families; it becomes very important for them to understand the value of support to the person who has acquired this disease. This is exactly what Positive talks about."

Positive is one of the four short films made for the Bill Gates Foundation with a view of generating HIV AIDS awareness. The other three films are made by Mira Nair, Vishal Bhardwaj and Santosh Sivan.

Rani Mukherji and Aditya Chopra to wed on Feburary 10, 2008

Rani Mukherji and Aditya Chopra are set to marry on Feburary 10 next year at Umaid Bhawan Palace hotel in Jodhpur, following an as yet unacknowledged engagement ceremony in June.

Rumour mills have been churning out stories of her romance with Aditya chopra for a long time, but Rani had scotched these rumours rebuffing the media.

Rani Mukherji has worked in a number of Yash Raj films, and it is said, she is treated as a daughter–in-law in the family.

Aditya Chopra is already married, but he would soon take a divorce from his first wife.

Update: It might just be another rumor!

Raza Murad in a film based on Nithari killings

Raza Murad is geared up to wear the character of Mohinder Singh Pandher, the dreadful murderer in Nithari killings in a film titled D5.

The idea is the brainchild of the director, Yoginder Singh with whom Raza had worked earlier in a comedy flick Tamboo Ka Bamboo.

Nithari killings had brought shivers to the spines of every Indian earlier this year. Raza Murad along with Yoginder has taken an initiative to bring up the root cause of such a frightful incident.

Raza says, "The film is an eye opener with a purpose of making the people aware and cautious of misdoings in the world and also teaching their children to remain guarded when it comes to strangers. I remember Mohinder Singh very distinctly. I have observed him very minutely. His appearance, mannerisms, body language and expressions even when he was taken to Ahmedabad for brain mapping test. However, not even in my wildest dream did I think I would play this character in future."

He also adds, "I have been to the homes of the killed children and have seen Mohinder Singh's bungalow with my own eyes."

Gopal Singh who had appeared in Madhur Bhandarkar 's Traffic signal as a beggar will be seen playing the servant, Surinder's role in the film.

The film will be shot in Mumbai with some exterior shots taken in Noida.

The caption on the poster says - 'He knows everything... about nothing, He's on a mission... to destroy himself. Seems to us that Chatur Singh is one bungling cop and his name is just an irony!

Just check out the caricature of Sanjay Dutt.

Also, his shadow behind him is of Wile E. Coyote, a clumsy character from The Road Runner Show.

Hrithik Roshan might do Shirish Kunder's Prince Of India

After Jodhaa Akbar, Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan is reportedly interested in doing more epic films.

And reports are that Hrithik is already in talks with Shirish Kunder (husband of Farah Khan).

Kunder made his directorial debut with Jaan-e-mann. Inspite of having big stars like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta, the film received a lukewarm response at the box-office. However this has not deterred Kunder and he is ready with his second project Joker, which will again star Akshay.

According to sources, Kunder initially wanted to make his directorial debut with an epic film titled Prince of India.

And now sources claim that after seeing Hrithik in the promo of Jodhaa Akbar, he is keen to revive his dream with Hrithik starring in it.

Moreover, Hrithik too seems keen to be a part of Kunder's project and is actually interested in doing more epic films. Sources claim Hrithik and Kunder have been having regular meetings and discussing the film.

Stay tuned in!

Sanjay Dutt gets into prayer mode

Three days before Sanjay Dutt gets the copy of TADA judgement, which will sentence him for six years of imprisonment on October 20, the actor will get into prayer mode.

Sanjay has organised a Mata Ki Chowki at his residence (Imperial Heights, Pali Hill) on October 17 from 7-10 pm.

A source close to the Dutt family says, "Nearly 200 people will be invited. The invitations are yet to be sent out. Only Sanjay's close friends and relatives know about it as yet."

Sanjay confirms, "Yes, I am having a Mata Ki Chowki at my house on October 17. My family believes a lot in Mata. Since Navratri is on, it is good to have a Chowki during these days. We observe the nine days of Navratri very religiously. We fast and do not consume any non-vegetarian food."

Ever since Sanjay has been out from Yerawada jail, he has visited many temples.

He visited Vaishnodevi (in North), Tirupati (in South), Dagdusheth in Pune and Shingnapur in Aurangabad. He even drove down to the Karni Mata temple (popularly known as the rat temple) in Pushkar.

Our good wishes are with you Sanju baba.
