Kareena: "Shahid and I are very much together!"

Only yesterday it was reported that the handsome couple, Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, had called it quits and that Bebo had replaced her SK (Shahid Kapoor) with another SK (Saif Ali Khan).

Apparently, Bebo and Saif became 'good friends' on the sets of Tashan and Shahid wasn't too comfortable with the camaraderie.

However, Kareena maintains that it isn't as easy as that!

"Shahid and I are very much together. He is in Toronto right now. All these rumours are ridiculous," she is heard to have said.

Well, at least one couple is intelligent enough to come forward and clarify their stand.

Bollywood Buzz wishes them more love :o)

Update: They are officially separated!

Chak De! India goes to Oscar library

After scoring a huge success at the box-office, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chak De! India has now become a part of the Oscar library.

A copy of the screenplay has reached the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences , which hosts and hands out the Oscar Awards, to be a part of their script collection.

The film, written by Jaideep Sahni and directed by Shimit Amin, has impressed the critics and audience alike in India.

The invitation is recognition that the screenplay of Chak De! India is comparable with the best in the world, and will become an invaluable asset for future generations of filmmakers.

The scripts in the collection reside at the Margaret Herrick Library and are accessible for research purposes only. Film students, filmmakers, writers and actors are among the regular patrons of the institution.

It's official: Pritish Nandy ki Sholay!

Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) has bagged a $100-million franchisee deal to remake the 70s masterpiece Sholay, which ran in movie theatres for five-and-a-half years without interruption, making it the most successful film in India's cinematic history.

The move comes at a time when Ram Gopal Varma's controversial movie, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, said to be an unofficial remake of Sholay, is set to release this weekend with 700 prints.

Production house PNC has entered into an agreement with Sippys-owned Sholay Media and Entertainment - the original maker of Sholay - to remake the blockbuster, make an animated version of the movie and also its prequel and sequel.

PNC chairman Pritish Nandy confirmed that he has signed an agreement to remake the film.

"We have entered into an agreement with the official franchisee-rights holder of Sholay to develop the franchisee of the most successful film ever made in Bollywood. Besides making the official remake of the movie, we will make a prequel and a sequel of the movie, as well as the animated version of it," he said.

Mr Nandy added that PNC would have a revenue-sharing arrangement with Sholay Entertainment & Media instead of the licensing fee model.

"The $100 million would cover all four projects. The official rights holders want to have a say in how the film should be treated in its new avatar and we have no problems with it."

The cast, crew and the distribution of the film would be worked out in the due course.

Shimit Amin's next will have Sports & Shahrukh

Though at the moment Shimit Amin isn't revealing anything, it's quite evident that the colossal impact of Chak De! India has fastened up his desire to embrace the sporty theme.

It is reliably learnt that sports and Shah Rukh will recur in Shimit's next.

Writer Jaideep Sahni, who gave such a stunning spin to the obsolete game of hockey, is likely to join the successful twosome in the next Yashraj film.

Says Shimit, "Audiences, do have certain expectations from me after Chak De! India. And I'd be foolish not to live up to those expectations."

Cobra: Ramu's next film with Bachchans

Ram Gopal Varma's Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag and Darling are releasing back to back (this week and next week), and his sequel to Sarkar is almost 80% complete.

Next on Ramu's cards is Cobra which will roll soon.

Cobra is being made in association with Adlabs and the cast of the film includes Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty and some more names to are yet to be added.

Now Heyy Babyy 2?

According to Taran Adarsh from IndiaFM, rumors are rife that Sajid is keen on repeating the cast of the film - Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh - in Heyy Babyy's sequel that he's planning. The only change will be the leading lady.

True?

"Milap Zaveri [the writer of Heyy Babyy] and I did mull over the idea. We knew that people would expect a sequel if the film works. But I want to try something new with my next film," Sajid clarifies.

But Heyy Babyy 2 would make wise business sense.

"It would, but I look at it differently. If at all I attempt a sequel, I'll have to show Akshay, Fardeen and Ritesh as 50 + age-wise, since the daughter would've grown up. Will they look convincing as older men? I doubt! This would be unacceptable to viewers," he smiles.

So what's next on the agenda?

"I've already started working on a new script. All I can say right now is that it will shock you," he smiles.

Stay tuned in!

RGV Ki Aag has a huge legacy to follow

The highly talented filmmaker, Ram Gopal Varma, is all ready to set the screen on fire with his Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag which he claims is his tribute to Sholay.

However Ramu has a huge legacy to follow as Ramesh Sippy's Sholay, which released on Independence day 1975, was a slow starter (surprisingly) during the initial weeks, but it went on to create box office history during its later run.

Released initially with 250 prints, it finally ran with a record breaking 1100 prints.

In the process, Sholay had a total earning of 23 crores, 64 lakhs and 50 thousand rupees. Sholay celebrated silver jubilee at 100 cinemas and golden jubilee at 60 cinemas, spread across the country. The movie still collects impressively, even in its umpteenth re-run (especially during the festive periods).

Here is hoping that Ramu (who claims to be the biggest fan of Sholay) makes a worthy tribute by way of his RGV Ki Aag.

The movie releases this Friday and boasts of some of the biggest names in the country, like megastar Amitabh Bachchan, South superstar Mohanlal, the highly versatile Ajay Devgan and the talented Sushmita Sen.

Heyy Babyy - Movie Review

Apun Ka Choice: The movie's strength lies in its storyline and appropriate casting of actors in their respective roles. On the whole, Heyy Babyy packs in enough masala and emotion to keep you entertained throughout its running time.

CNN-IBN:
Heyy Babyy is a gross comedy, over-the-top drama.

Glamsham:
For a first-timer, Sajid has effortlessly woven the scenes to piece a seamless movie; like a master knitter who weaves with the magic of long needles an amazing centerpiece for the table.

Hindustan Times:
Sajid Khan's direction is more dependent on lavish resources and star value than a distinctive style of storytelling. The music score by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is nothing to hum about; the cinematography is patchy and the screenplay's latter-half is particularly laboured.

IndiaFM: On the whole, Heyy Babyy is an entertainer that has something for everyone. At the box-office, it has the potential to rock big time.

Movie Talkies:
Heyy Babyy is an enjoyable film.

Now Running:
Heyy Babyy, heart-warmingly funny.

Rediff:
A really annoying Babyy!

Times Of India: It's primarily the performances that save Heyy Babyy from being another run-of-the-mill comedy. If Akshay is his usual boisterous self, then both Fardeen and Riteish are competent as his funny buddies.

Shilpa Shetty out of British film

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has lost her first British film after making high pay demands.

The 32-year-old actress was set to play the leading role in the romantic comedy film Quick, Slip Me A Bride, but disagreements regarding money have compelled the producers to find another leading star.

According to Renu Patel, producer of the 4 million pound film, Shilpa demanded 350,000 pounds and asked them to delay the project till next year.

"Shilpa agreed to do the film with us. Now we have been forced to go ahead without her because she wanted GBP350,000 and insisted half of this had to be paid before she even shot any scene," ContactMusic quoted Patel, as saying.

"To make things worse, she then tried to insist we delayed the film until next summer to give her time to pursue a music project instead. It would have made Shetty a lead in her first British-made film and given her the chance to scotch the idea she is merely a failing Bollywood actress," she added.

Salman Khan arrested, sent to jail

Bollywood star Salman Khan was today arrested and sent to jail shortly after he landed in Jodhpur from Mumbai to surrender in the blackbuck poaching case in which he lost an appeal against a five-year prison term given by a lower court.

He was picked up from airport in Jodhpur by a police team headed by additional Superintendent of Police Sawai Singh Godhara when he arrived by a Jet Airways flight accompanied by his brother Sohail Khan and lawyer Dipesh Mehta.

His lawyers argued with the police that he wanted to surrender but the law-enforcers said they had a court warrant and they had to execute it.

Salman, wearing a white T-shirt, cargo pants and sporting sunglasses, was soon after taken in a police jeep and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate who had issued the non-bailable warrant since he was not present in the sessions court which had yesterday rejected his appeal.

The CJM directed him to be lodged in the jail.

His lawyers now plan to file an appeal against the sessions court judgment in the Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court today itself, though it may be heard only on Monday.

Through two university hostellers, Apurv (Imaad Shah), a rich, cosmopolitan guy and, Sanjay Mishra (Shreyas Talpade), an old-fashioned Bihari guy, the film juxtaposes the 'new/ liberal' and the 'old/ conservative' in our society.

Sanjay is an ambitious and focused student-politician in Delhi. He represents the romantic and the idealist who steadfastly pursues his political goals. On the other hand, Apurv's life is directionless. With the abundance of time and money in hand, he searches for meaning in life through amorous escapades with various girls.

The three female leads - that of a prostitute , a school girl and a rich model, provide a myriad of social and emotional backdrops to the film.

Vaisali ( Smriti Mishra) plays an attractive but sharp-tongued prostitute. She claims never to get emotionally attached to her customers.

Then there is the precocious school girl Kintu (Ishitta Sharrma), who coquettishly remains noncommittal to Apurv's flirtations and plays hard to get.

Prerna (Nikita Anand) is the rich South Delhi babe who aspires to become an international model, and yet finds herself attracted to the earthy and charismatic student-politician, Sanjay.

Dil Dosti Etc uses a rich ensemble of characters, stories and themes to explore the very nature of friendship, male bonding, voyeurism, sexual perversion, love and betrayal.

The film, based on an original screenplay, is full with realism and black humour and shows the coming of age of not only a young man but also explores the ambiguities and pre-occupations of an entire generation.

Produced by Prakash Jha and directed by Manish Tiwary, Dil Dosti Etc has music by Suhas/
Siddharth and is slated for a
September 28 release.

Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema

After the runaway success of Chak De! India, there's more reason to cheer.

A book on Shahrukh Khan, written by film journalist and author Anupama Chopra, has already sold ten thousand copies just two weeks after the book was released!

Titled King of Bollywood : Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema, the book traces SRK's journey in Bollywood, and also showcases the journey of Indian cinema through the actor's eyes.

"The idea for the book was always to create a portrait of a superstar, a film industry, and a country. It was always going to be a journey into India and into popular Hindi cinema through the work and life of Shahrukh Khan," said author Anupama Chopra.

"With the globalisation of our industry, Shahrukh has become the face. When you talk about our industry, you have to talk about Shahrukh Khan - brand Shahrukh Khan," said Karan Johar, director.

And while Bollywood gushed on about the Baadshah, Shah Rukh opted for modesty.

"They are two people who think for films more than Shahrukh Khan, i think. They love films, they love the world that cinema has created around them. And it just so happens that they are in the time when I've been doing well and I've been prominent in this field. They've taken me as a focal point or a starting point to talk about cinema in India," he said.

He is one man who's been at the right place at the right time and the stars are shining down on him.

Chak De, Shahrukh!

Marigold - Movie Review

Apun Ka Choice: Marigold is riddled with all the clichés that could be seen in bad Bollywood movies. To sum it up, Marigold is an utterly forgettable film. The movie leaves you feeling wilted.

BBC:
Despite boasting bags of colour, energy and top Bollywood actor Salman Khan, this cross cultural concoction falls halfway between the genres.

CNN-IBN:
Marigold is one of those embarrassing films that deserve to have stayed in the cans forever.

Glamsham: Marigold is a winner. (No idea what made the editor call it a "winner"!!)

Hindustan Times:
Honestly, the experience of watching this Indo-American oddity is pretty close to facing death. If you survive to tell the tale, consider yourself a survivor of a tsunami of pure drivel!

IndiaFM: On the whole, Marigold is a terrible film with gloomy prospects. A sure-shot disaster!

Movie Talkies:
The problem is that the director makes no attempt to create a plot which could be remotely interesting. In fact, barring the presence of Salman Khan, the film has little else to offer. It's quite a poor attempt at bringing the two - Hollywood & Bollywood - together.

New York Times:
Marigold isn't quite the lark it could be. It doesn't really have Bollywood's antic, anything-goes quality, and Mr. Carroll's script lacks punch and dimension.

Now Running:
Marigold, an aesthetically shot love story.

Rediff:
Marigold: Salman's worst mistake!

Times Of India:
A bit more energy and the film could have been a sweet crossover romance.

First Look: Kareena-Shahid's Jab We Met

After conducting several polls on what the title of Imtiaz Ali's film starring Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur should be, the results are finally out.

The majority of the people voted for the title Jab We Met.

Imtiaz said, "It's great that the junta gave us their inputs. After all, we make films for our viewers, and to make them a part of the naming process was really good."

The other titles suggested were Ishq Via Bhatinda and Punjab Mail. The story of this film revolves around two strangers who meet on the train.

Shahid says, "It's so real. And this is the first real romantic story you'll see Kareena and me in. The other films we have done together haven't necessarily been complete love stories."

Jab We Met has music by Pritam and the movie is slated for an October 7 release.
